    I have a very similar timer module in a Honeywell Chronotherm thermostat. My 2/3AAA solder-tab battery was also dead, but it caused the timer to stop. I tried a test with a AA alkaline battery, but 1.5 volts caused it to run fast. A NiMH AA battery worked great as a temporary fix. I simply used a heavy rubber-band to hold the leads onto the battery. That was the good news. The bad is that an hour ago I went to solder in a std AAA battery holder so I could use a std AAA NiMh and screwed up! I neglected to remove the thermostat before soldering and the grounded tip of the iron drew a spark when it touched the battery wire. Now the clock is dead. I'm just beginning debug. Any suggestions? I'm a retired EE, but don't have a scope handy. I also neglected to recall which battery lead I had touched with the iron. I would love qualified suggestions!

    By the way, the other number on your Eurosil 1115A, 1585, should be a date code of the 15th week of 1985 (mine is 4887 or 48th wk of 1987). That should help you date your unit. My thermostat was installed in 1989.

        It looks like an extremely similar timer subassembly was used in the very popular Honeywell Chronos T8082A series thermostats such as T8082A-1148 (and maybe T8095 series such as the T8095A1002). Look for them on eBay and use one as a parts source.

            I'm sorry, this is only a hobby for me, so for more advanced troubleshooting I hope one of the guys helping me can give you some help. I would recommend you to upload pictures of the timer, so they have something to work from.

            As for my own clock, I received the battery on Friday, and completed the repairs according to my last posting above yesterday. The clock has been running directly of mains for about 30 hours now, with little or no drift in time. I plan to let it run another 18 hours of mains, then let the battery run down, before I desolder it of the mains cable. I'll upload pictures of the repaired unit tomorrow.

                clock radio / radio lifespan?

                ive got a modern digital clock radio approx 15yrs old

                my question is how long can a clock radio or a simple radio last ss farcas operating hours?

                since elec components have limited hour lifecspan i would imagine the radio or clock radio would eventually fail.

                the reason i ask is because i have my clock radio on radio function 24/7 for the past 7 years and its still working fine....i leave the radio on ..never turn off past 7years...thats approx 60000 hours

                it uses very little power just a few watts i would imagine that may have something...

                Hello friends,

                Its been a while, i wish you an happy new year 2025 !

                I have this laptop doesn't start, power light up a second when pluging USB-C charger.
                Laptop take 0.11A.
                All signals and voltages before SLP_S4# are OK but no SLP_S4# , S3...

                I get no oscilation on XTAL 32.768 KHZ
                Battery is not charging but charging led is here.
                PCH heat at 30° approximatively. (with no heatsink)

                I think this crystal might be dead, i have only boardview giving me this: XTAL 32.768KHZ 12.5PF/20PPM.
                It's a 2 pins Crystal.

                Dear all,

                I have this old radio clock by Sony from the early 80s, I guess. The clock display works, but is dim, the function board appears to be OK - but the radio unit shows no signs of life. It doesn't produce a single noise, crack or anything from either FM or AM band. It's like it doesn't even power up.
                i opened the radio and it is full of some TRACON gray capacitors. They only have their negative strip printed, voltage and capacitace markings - no series, no temperature marking, nothing else.
                My question is, do you know of this brand of capacitors and how bad are...

                Hey everyone,

                I'm currently working on a mid-70s Sharp Electronic Digital Clock Radio, Model FY-70CH. I found the service manual online, printed it out, and have been studying it for a while. My main reasons for tackling this are: (1) I want to learn electronics and figured I'd start with something I had on hand, and (2) I want to fix its issues. Right now, the radio sounds awful, has about 5V DC at the speaker terminals, and the alarm time setting doesn't work. But I'm not asking how to fix these problems.

                Instead, here's what's been bugging me so far:

                71R-H14BW6-T830, clock stops when shutdown

                Hi!
                Funny problem. I have a board, model 71r-h14bw6-t830, it's a shuttle board used commonly on a lot of cheap laptops/AIOs.
                The clock (RTC) is not working when the machine is turned off. Doesn't matter if it is connected to dc power or not. When the PC is powered on, the clock works fine.
                I tried replacing Y6 and Y7 (picture below), but it doesn't seem to be an oscillator problem.
                I don't have the exact schematic for this board, but I'll provide one that is similar (a variation of the same board).

                Any suggestions?
