    Fluke 87 Meter repair

I have a model 87 fluke multimeter with Q8 showing bad and I am looking to replace it. Fluke no longer stock it and don't have a substitute for it I can't see any markings on it so can't find a data sheet. Was wondering if someone could recommend a substitute from the schematic attached

The number shown in the parts list for the MFRS is SSTVNS009-T1 but this # do not show any results. The description given in the parts list: Transistor, SI, N-DMOS FET, SOT23.

Absolute murder to find the part! Q8 N-ch small signal DMOS FET for battery switch.
TEMIC/Silconix SSTVNS009-T1 SOT-23, Fluke 830851 replaced by Fluke 927538. Not in Silconix 1986 FET databook.

The part is now 2N7002, easy to find. BSS138 would likely work too.

What happened to the meter that caused Q8 to go bad?

Not sure I think I may have put a prop across it with the unite powered on I smoked Q8 and Q10 in the process. I picked up the meter because it had an issue with a high amperage spike and I didn't help none. One of these monuments.

I was wondering about this too, normally it'd take quite a bit to fry Q8 and normally if Q8 goes, the whole meter is likely not salvageable...
But if you zapped it externally directly with some other issue, then this may not apply.

Q8, Q10 are at the power system for the DMM IC, which is never supposed to see any overloads. It could happen if you were running the DMM from a bench power supply instead of the 9V battery and caused a ground fault. But this is uncommon.
I would say good chance the DMM IC is fried if those parts failed There's a bunch of parts to protect the DMM IC and why didn't they work?

You could leave out Q8, Q10, Q3 and jumper battery(-) to VSS at C21 just to see if the meter can boot up. If there is a short or overcurrent on the VDD/VSS I think the DMM IC has shorted.

Modification of a Fluke multi meter that uses three AA batteries to use a 14500 lithium ion battery
                    by sam_sam_sam
I have had with regular AA batteries that leak this meter is expensive new I already replaced the battery battery clips once and the same thing happened again and I am tried of so it is getting modified to accommodate lithium ion batteries that are the same size excluding the positive terminal and removing the battery clips I will have enough room for the BMS protection board

I going to put 3 lithium ion battery in parallel with the BMS protection board and a way to charge the battery externally and heat shrink the battery pack and use a JST connector so I easily remove the battery...

Is it possible to test small ceramic disc capacitor with analogue meter?
                    by chth96
I read EBOOK of Testing Electronic Component and found that

"In order to test the small blue resin coated ceramic disk capacitor which has 104 50v specification,it is possible to test this small ceramic capacitor by making use of analogue meter.
Set to times 10Kohm that has 12v output from the probe to check disorder of ceramic capacitor.
It is not uncommon that testing result of digital capacitance meter is okay,But It show shorted reading when you check it with analogue meter."

Is it really possible to test small ceramic disc capacitor with analogue...

Find substitute for mosfet in servo board of versacamm sp-540v plotter
                    by edugimeno
                    Hi There!
I am currently serviciing a plotter versacamm sp-540v
I found a shorted mosfet labeled J553 which corresponds with SJ-553s (surface mount)
Neither local stores nor other webpages that are able to provide it before 1 month (only aliexpress, with 1 month delivery) can provide this part
I need to find a substitute for it. Can anyone give me a hint on a part that I can use to replace it?

Also, given the schematic Im attaching (pg 36, transsitor Q1) , does it make sense that the whole machine won't turn on when I press the POWER button on the panel? This...

Hi, Im trying to find the area on the chip that contains all of my laptops information, but I havent found it. The laptop won't turn on anymore. I was updating the BIOS, and it was supposed to reboot itself, but it wouldnt turn back on. I ve tried every possible solution, every alternative on Lenovo forums, everywhere; I ve taken it to technicians, and no one has been able to fix it. I've already read the chip that contains the BIOS (Winbond 25Q128JSVQ) and searched for my laptops data, but they're nowhere to be found. I only find scribbles and lines of text indicating errors. Has anyone had a...
