Generic semiconductors...good or bad?

I have a choice here....buy an NTE replacement transistor or wait a week for the new old stock genuine Sanyo to arrive form Florida.

What's your take on this?

What's the transistor? If it's a small signal transistor being used in a switching circuit, go with the NTE. If it's for a specialized application like a horizontal output transistor, the original is barely good enough.

Hence why I asked....its a HOT for a 32" Trinitron.

Ive heard BAD things about generics in HOT applications so I think Im gonna give Acme Enterprises some more business.

Use RCA part number 237470. This is another way to get if your supplier have it in stock already.

this is one of possible highly fakes as well, get the geniune from B & D.

I had 2 fakes (2SC3850 as well IIRC).

Better yet, look up the specs of the part and replace with higher rating of voltage and current. Other specs should be similar or close to the original. You can try www.datasheet4u.com or www.alldatasheet.com
