I know I am. Lucky because that 315mA 250V fuse blew before any more damage was done. If that fuse hadn't blown, I wouldn't have this mulimeter back up again.

i avoid this by blocking the current jack on my meters and only testing current with a clampmeter.

            STJ speaks wise words. lol

Also, I know that this situation is a bit different since you were testing the socket, but if you work commonly with mains stuff I would suggest making a light bulb current limited supply. For the cost of an extension cord, a ceramic light socket and a tungsten/halogen bulb, you can have a socket that will light the bulb up when you make a short while also protecting your equipment/device under test..

              Ah... it's a shame a board that spacious doesn't have A) a 10a fuse and B) HRC fuses...

Ironically, that little gap where the trace was would probably fit one of those tiny 10a hrc axial lead fuses and give your meter an upgrade. Lol (Just heat shrink it well to keep it from the shunt/other terminals.

or put an inline fuseholder on the probes wire - fluke sell a probe like that!

Which multimeter to choose : BRYMEN BM 869S OR UNIT UT18B PRO ?
                  by madfreak
Hello, there were probably topics like this, but I need opinions about these 2 multimeters or maybe there is another one on the market worth to buy ? .

I am going to change the multimeter and I do not know if the 2x higher price for Brymen will convert into speed and comfort of a work ...

                  What would you recommend?

Brymen BM869s or UNIT UT18B pro?
I care about accuracy and security, and the meter will be used for computer hardware.

Thank you very much in advance for your comments and suggestions

Repair of an LG split AC system indoor unit PCB
                  by ngml
I am trying to repair an LG split AC indoor unit, which does not start and gives a CH05 error code.
This indicates an error in the communication between the outdoor and the indoor unit.
The outdoor unit is fine, so the problem is the indoor PCB.
The indoor unit is an LG PC09SQ NSJ (3SNM09JA2FA), and the PCB has the following type number: EAX35907219-1.2 (see photo1)
I changed optocouplers ICO1X & ICO2X and the NPN transistor S9013 which drives optocoupler ICO2X (see photo2), but this did not remedy the fault.

Does anybody have the schematics of this board,...

How To Test a P-channel Trench Mosfet Using A Multimeter In Diode Mode
                  by dj8452000
I am new to electronics and I'm understanding most of what I'm reading but I have a mosfet on my board that I've identified as a P-channel Trench Mosfet. I haven't a clue how to test this and what I should expect to see with the multimeter probes. I am hoping someone with years more experience than myself can help me understand how to use a multimeter to read this. Please look at the drawing I have attached to this and can you try to explain to me what I should be doing with my multimeter in diode mode and what results I should expect from a good mosfet?...

ASUS GU502GV not powering on - 1285A hot
                  by yayayee
                  Hello,

I have a laptop that isn't turning on. When I disassemble it and plug in the power connector with the pcb by itself, I can see with a thermal camera I bought that TPS51285A is the only thing getting hot.

So of course, the first thing I do is google the laptop model and the IC, and it just happens that I stumble upon a video by Northridgefix attempting to repair the exact same problem, only for it to catch on fire.

I thought that maybe I'd be lucky so I bought a 1285A, that came in as a 1285B. The only difference I can see between them is that the 1285B...

Bose Companion 5 - Unit Powers On then Cuts Off Shortly After
                  by nobbnobb1
                  Hi guys,

Trying to salvage a Bose Companion 5 computer speaker system that powers off shortly after powering on. It's got a primary USB input (built in DAC) and an aux 3.5mm input. The USB appears to be the primarily source that tells the unit to power on (control pod LED goes green) as the unit has no power switch.

When I first connect power to the unit, plug in the USB, it will play audio nicely for a minute before it drops out and the unit appears to go into standby (control pod LED goes red). It stays in standby and I cannot seem to power it back on without physically...
