I want to make a tape bulk eraser. Would a ferrite core wrapped in wire do it? Can I just put AC to it with maybe a fuse and switch? Would a DC power source be better?

Couldn't you just acquire an old Radio Shack VHS Bulk Tape Eraser?
They would eventually get the job done, though VHS tapes took awhile.
I tried using mine on Audio tape for erasing before re-recording.
Even on Cassette Tapes it would take awhile to get it all. It would pick the tape right up off the table and buzz. You had to move it around to get the inner part of the wound-up tape.
That thing was heavy and got warm, too.
It had no external evidence of having a transformer.
I have no idea what kind or how much magnet wire was in it.

I looked at those on ebay and thought they were too pricey. I also heard they did a poor job, especially on DV tapes. Real bulk erasers are $$$$.
I want to make one out of a c-shaped block from a hv relay and magnet wire that would plug into the wall. I'm thinking light switch to power it to kis.
I figure it would be powerful enough to erase a tape with the correct windings/gauge and would constantly alternate polarity for added effect. I just don't want to trip the breaker or electrocute myself.Comment

Ok, I tried using Phone Wire and A 15v 2A power supply. It works but not well enough. I think I need the magnet wire.Comment

You cant use ferrite at low frequencies ,guessing you are talking about 50Hz mains.
You need to use Stanalloy ,like mains transformers .

Problem
This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached.... -
I have a Quantum SuperLoader robotic tape library that uses an IBM LTO 7 tape drive which is constantly complaining that it needs cleaning. If you insert a cleaning tape, it performs the clean and resets the cleaning counter to 0 hours. It should only require cleaning every 50 or so working hours but after as little as just 1 hours use it requests cleaning. We've purchased a new cleaning tape along with new LTO backup tapes but that has not resolved the problem.

I've been seeing a lot of the new TVs (samsung and LG only i think) maybe 1-2 years old suffering from sudden panel death and have been over 50% successful bringing them at least most of the way back to functionality if not all the way, with the tape masking of the LVDS pins method.
add this one to the list. the issue was on the left side of the panel and i ended up blocking just 3 pins on the connector that joins the two panel boards that make up the left side of the panel (it has 4 boards total) i didnt get the picture back to 100% perfect. i spent hours fiddling with which pins to block...07-17-2023, 10:22 PM -
OK. I got the rocker switch figured out thanks to the good advice on this forum.
Now I need to figure out the correct wire to go to the switch from the broiler element and from the oven element.
This is a Whirlpool RDE3340 electric range.
The common wire on the switch appears to have a high temperature insulating material. I am guessing that both the wire to the broiler and the wire to the oven elements also need relatively high temperature insulation. What do I need to look for? The broiler is rated at about 2400 watts.

We have an Lenovo Yoga 710 15ISK that we use as a secondary laptop.
