The books might be heavy going. Instead I would try this:

Here is some smps information from ON semi. As for the books, they are available as pdf if you look. Will they help in troubleshooting? maybe, If you don't have the service manuals with schematics welders/ups etc. can be hard to repair, and sometimes they use unmarked components or custom parts.

If you go to Semi conductor company's web sites, you will see lots of info on application notes, application circuits, reference design circuits.

they will have examples related to that function.

                      Good evening team,

I've been trying to learn electronics since the beggining of the year. My main goal is to fix broken consoles/laptops. It has been a very fullfilling journey and fortunately I've found my way around and I've already fixed a few of them.

While there's a lot of info online (this forum as an example) I would like to gather a few suggestions about books on electronics. I've already attempted to read a few ones, but to be honest I haven't found anyone that suits what I'm looking for. As an example "The Art of Electronics" is amazing, but there's...

ASUS TUF X570-PLUS doesn't power on: no VRM_EN signal.
                      by ShadowAi
Hello, I have an issue with the motherboard. Specifically, it doesn't power on, more precisely, the POST initialization doesn't occur.

Let me start from the beginning, the motherboard suddenly stopped working one day. There are no beep signals from the speaker, and the debug LEDs are not lighting up. After inspecting it under a microscope and using thermal imaging, I didn't find anything that could be damaged.

After that, I began voltage measurements, in which I noticed the absence of VDDQ, VDDP, VTT, and VPP lines. Later, I checked if there is an EN state on these lines,...

Howdy folks! I'm an artist in the video game industry, and my job entails making a lot of mechanical and sci fi assets. I thought it might be a good practice to start disassembling some electronics to be more familiar with how real electronics are manufactured and assembled, which is how i found my way to these forums.

When I started researching what tools I might need, I quickly encountered the warning "Some devices can maintain a potentially lethal charge in their capacitors, even up to years after last being powered on", which was enough of a scary thought for me to...

Acer Nitro 5 LA-H501P Not Charging, Not Powering On
                      by Growtopia Jaw
I have an Acer Nitro 5 AN515-54 no charging indicator and not powering on via AC. Battery is totally dead (0V) and I'm in the process of getting another battery that at least has some charge left in it.

I have no idea where to start so without plugging in battery and plugging in AC, I measured main voltage rails with my analog multimeter. i've also attached boardview and schematics for this motherboard.

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
                      by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...
