    Oily thermal pads

    Hi everyone.

a quick question - is it normal thermal pads to be oily? I mean - used thermal pads ( already installed ).
I do not have much experience with those, only bought new ones with adhesive and they were dry.
So, is it normal the thermal pads to appear moist/oily ( probably to help the thermal conductivity ) or this is a clue for a water damage or something else?

It's normal, I think. Just about every old/used video card I've bought has had oily RAM thermal pads. Some more than others (typically the hotter GPUs tend to have them "wetter"... so maybe like humans: the hotter we get the more we sweat? )

Oh yes: plenty normal. Just about every TV I've worked on has a big block of a pad under the main board and/or PSU...they make a mess and it's a pain to clean up all that dust mixed in with oil since it turns into some mushy gunk that clings to everything...the thicker the pad, the more it's likely to leak out.

Hi, somebody knows the thickness of thermal pads for M15 R1? Or if someone have this Alienware model, can take measure for original thermal pads.

Dell Latitude 5570 Ambient thermal sensor reading -127 Degrees C
          by Gcnewbie
Forgive me this is my first request for help on this forum, so if i've screwed up or not followed the rules i should have i apologise profusely.

I have a Dell Latitude 5570 that was randomly shutting down, on further investigation i found that the machine had been shutting down due to thermal events as noted by windows event viewer.
My investigations lead me to the dell diagnostics screen, where i found that there were two sensors out of range which had been causing the shutdowns, one of which was the GPU thermal sensor and the other the ambient sensor.
          I opened the...

Laptop overheating after replacement thermal paste
          by Veyron7887
Hi. I have Asus X55C laptop from year 2013. It has i3-2328M CPU. I replaced stock thermal paste with high quality thermal paste. Before thermal paste replacement, I measured CPU temperature Around 65-70 degrees Celcius with stock thermal paste. If after the replace thermal paste, I measured CPU temperature around 80-84 degrees Celcius and fan don't stop when system is idle. I replaced the thermal paste several times but still did not change. Where is the problem?

          Hi,
Have a Macbook A2179 with liquid damage. Customer showed it some shop which has done an ultrasonic cleaning of the board.
The board pulls 0V but doesnt turn on. No Fan SPIN. NOT IN DFU.

I checked the Power Sequences below and found this -

Once a valid external power source (Charger or battery) is connected, the following rails will come online.
PPBUS_G3H: Normal voltage is ~12.6v on the charger with the battery disconnected. Produced from the ISL9240 (U7000, which uses PPDCIN_G3H as its VIN.
PP3v3_G3H_RTC: Normal voltage is ~3.3v. Produced...

          Can thermal paste cause corrosion?
          by caspian
          Dear members,

I have got an ordinary gray thermal paste that has no name/model on the box.
I put some of this thermal paste on a 128-pin QFP IC. A bit of this thermal paste was put on pins of the IC.
I tried to clean the pins by thinner but the thermal paste cannot be cleaned from the pins properly. because the pins are tiny and the thermal paste is stuck between them.
Is it possible that the thermal paste damages pins of the IC in long term by creating corrosion or something?
Is it safe to leave the thermal paste on the pins?
          I guess the thermal paste...
