a breaker would do this only if there is some kind of short or some other problem..i want it done under normal condition..
For example my braun shaver does exactly this,it runs of an adapter it has an on/off switch on itself but when the adapter is switched off and back on the shaver wont turn on until the button on the shaver is pressed againComment

If the adapter outputs DC, this could easily be done with an SCR (Silicon controlled rectifier). It would also be possible to this with a triac in an AC circuit.Originally posted by keyboardcowboy

He may also be asking about the type of switch used in some TV's.
This type of switch is used in some electronics so that if your power goes out the component will not power back on when the power outage or breaker is turned back on. They will only turn back on when the switch is pressed again. Or they will not power on after 15 seconds of power loss.
When power is lost and restored within 15 seconds, the load stays on
When power is lost for more than 15 seconds, the load turns off..
Not sure what the name of this is called I thought it was a reed switch or magnetic switch but I was wrong.^Learning to walk on rice paper without leaving a trace,Comment

It sounds like a load transfer switch like on a standby UPS to me.
When the power goes out the load is transferred to an inverters output.
With a mechanical relay this will take around 6ms or so for transfer. With a semiconductor based relay I'm sure the response time will be faster.Last edited by Krankshaft; 06-20-2009, 11:30 AM.Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.Comment

Typically used to start high amperage loads such as air conditioners and high HP motors and such.

Hello,
I've been working on a NEC TurboExpress and I accidentally got the plastic inside the power ON/OFF switch too hot while doing other repairs and melted it. At first, it would still power on when sliding the switch, but you had to really press inward while sliding to get it to work.
I removed the switch component and tried to gently melt the plastic back so it would work more reliably and all I managed to do was make it worse.
I need to find a replacement On/OFF switch for this, but having some trouble figuring out which kind of switch I need.... -

I want the switch to be open when the water is high, and closed when the water is low. Unfortunately it works the opposite. And since this switch is designed to be underwater, it's all sealed up, there is no taking it apart or hacking it up.
