Shielded cable for speakers - good/bad?

Good day folks. Quick little discussion I'd like to start here: for whatever reason my boss felt the need to swipe the little soundbar I was using on my bench at work to listen to music, which made me very angry and made me do something about it, since I need my beats when I work...don't judge

What I did was take a Vestel 18AMP 06 (if I'm not mistaken) amplifier module I grabbed out of a dead TV a while back, added a jack input to that, powered it with a laptop power brick and got myself 2 home theater speakers I had lying around at home. Not having any wire on hand to quickly connect the speakers to the amplifier module, I chopped one from a mac charger in half and used that. It sounds excellent considering the price was zero and I'm now rocking the joint again

Question is: laptop power cables are normally shielded and this one was no exception, so would using a shielded cable like this, which is in no way intended for this, to power speakers be considered a bad/irrelevant or perhaps beneficial idea ? Center wire goes to + and the shield goes to -.... I can't imagine it "improving" anything in any way, since I would've seen those "cable scammers" selling overpriced "shielded speaker cables guaranteed to improve bass response" and you know...sh!t like that...just an open discussion here. I'm leaning towards no difference between this and regular "two-wire, black-red" speaker cord.

it's either not going to make a difference, or it could reduce EMI - depending on the power you pump through it.
and of course if the speakers are negative-grounded and not BTL.

Cheaper option is to use FTP.
Useful conversions. I don't "speak" imperial. Please use metric, if you want to address me.

Kinda off-topic, but did you buy the soundbar, or is it company property?
Don't buy those $10 PSU "specials". They fail, and they have taken whole computers with them.

My computer doubles as a space heater.

It's technically his, no arguing about that, but still a dick move IMO No problem, the speakers I got do a much better job now. I'm actually planning on hunting down a second amp and run a subwoofer too

            Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

Philips F9217L-50R speakers – build quality impressions and DIY surround repair
            by momaka
More Lo-Fi speakers and another DIY surround repair. The patient this time: a pair of Philips F9217L-50R speakers from a budget Philips rack/component system from the '80's. The system belongs to my brother in-law… or actually his parents. However, they didn't want it when they moved houses and he liked it anyways, so he ended up keeping it. It's a pretty cool-looking vintage system with a wood/veneer cabinet and shelves for records and cassettes. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to take a picture of it or get the model #'s (but maybe next time I visit, if anyone is curious?)

RCA WHP141 wireless headphones wired up
            by momaka
OK, this one dates back to 2015! I thought I had posted this, but realized I didn’t when I posted a picture of something else. So here it goes…

Back in 2015, I bought a pair of RCA WHP141 wireless headphones at Micro Center for $2. I even mentioned it in the best cheap/free scores thread right here. Just forgot to follow up with that.

As mentioned back then, these are (were) 900 MHz FM wireless headphones. No modern day Blutooth or anything like that. I knew they wouldn’t be great headphones or even that good… but the price was right! So let’s take...

Boston Acoustics HD8 – build quality impressions & DIY woofer surround repair
            by momaka
Boston Acoustics fans, this thread might not be for you.
A few years back (~2018 time frame), I picked up a set of free JVC speakers from someone on Craigslist that no one seemed to be interested in. The guy also had a single Boston Acoustics HD8 speaker – yes, just one cabinet. He said he had no idea where he got this one from or why it's only by itself. But like the JVC speakers, it was going to get tossed at the end of that week… so I came to collect, as usual. And that's all I know about this HD8. After all, I figured why not take it and see what's inside… show it to the...

            Anthem MRX500 - no sound

            Dear Electronics Experts:

I have the following problem I am trying to troubleshoot. Unfortunately, I have contacted Anthem themselves and even a local distributer but I am not having much luck. Also, I have scoured the internet and unable to obtain a service manual. The Anthem service rep has also replied that he is unable to provide me with any service documentation. I have performed numerous searches on the internet and cross-referenced a few other AV receiver makers (Denon, Marantz, Onkyo) and found certain similarities to block diagram...
