It could also be the Qualcomm fast charging... The fast charging for my Moto G is 12v. I plugged it into the USB analyzer i had. Had being the keyword. USB analyzers don't like 12v.

I'm hoping that it's just the charger being a cheapo. The USB charger that's in my father's 2012 Jeep Liberty, looks like a POS...

There's also the apparently patented 9V+ charging system that newer phones will complain about not having if you just hook up a regular 5V charger (it needs to negotiate with the charger to 9V else that charger could destroy other devices). Still wondering about reverse engineering one somehow, and whether these chargers work properly with 5V 2A charging that simply short D+/D- ...

Who the heck did that??? Did some folks not learn from the dreaded flip-phone era??? Back when a Motorola would literally yell "unauthorized charger" on the screen... (one of their flip phones, IIRC)

Don't know, I didn't find the patent or if there is one, but I'm sure there is... Qualcomm probably owns the patent and apparently multiple people licensed it by buying their charge controller chips (like my Asus...)

It won't say "Unauthorized Charger" but will say "Slow charge" or something like that so people know why it doesn't charge as fast as the original.

            ---

Ahh looks like the protocol to trigger the charger to dump 9-12V is documented. Now I can make my own charger for my Asus... or at least I should be able to...

              Some example of fast charging.

Apple Watch Charging Controller Schematics / Boardview - 820-02601
                by a_p3rson
                Hi there,

I'm looking for anyone who might have information on Apple's embedded Apple Watch charging daughterboard, ID 820-02601. This is currently used by Anker in their Apple Watch charging products, but likely by other Apple partner brands as well.

You can see the board referenced in ChargerLab's teardown of the Anker Y1811 3-in-1 MagSafe cube - they discuss the "Apple Watch wireless charging circuit" about 2/3rds down the page. It's not pictured, but the board ID reads 820-02601-A, which sure sounds like Apple.
                This daughterboard uses an interesting...

                Hello, all.

                Cyberpower Battery Backup Unit.

I bought two new ML18-12 batteries through Amazon (They have already refunded my money for the two batteries as we thought the batteries might have been bad.)
When I got them in, they were not fully charged. I connected them to the UPS and waited 24 hours before connecting any networking equipment.
In parallel, they read 24v, but within 24 hours, the meter on the front of the unit dropped from 4 to 3 bars on the battery charge indicator.
Checking the voltage, it was down to 22v.
                I quickly removed everything...
