    Water damage... tips for debug?

Apparently my Magnavox MWD-2206 suffered water damage and will not power on. Right now I have to make an assumption as I don't know what the power on sequence is, but it looks like the power supply is working.

I seem to have found a PCB track that should be floating, or at least it should rise to +5V, but stuck at 0.628 volts. It's a pull-down line with a 10K pull-up.

That 0.628 volts is suspicious as it's close to a diode drop. Any ideas on how to debug this?

I found the pullup resistor, and thinking about pulling it out to see how the circuit reacts (and to measure it...) It's a carbon composite resistor it looks like it's fine and highly doubt it value shifted. The wire must have shorted somewhere else, perhaps to the diode, but pulling that resistor might reveal some clues.

Can we please get more details info as to what we are dealing with especially the PCB Track you are referring to?

Re: Water damage... tips for debug?

      What I see is
      +5V ----pullup resistor--------x------x------x------x--------Microcontroller input

X is where a switch pulls down to GND through a resistor.

Supposedly when nothing is pulling down on that wire, the microcontroller should read 5 volts... but it's not, it's reading 0.6 volts.

I checked each of the switches and they don't seem to be shorting/leaking as when I depress them, the line does indeed go down to 0V or at least changes. So I suspect that something is bleeding into this line due to water damage...

I'm hoping that the microcontroller input didn't end up leaky somehow, that's a possibility too. The microcontroller is SMT, temporarily pulling it is a possibility so that I can test the track, but that seems like a lot of work...

Just wondering if there's some tips and tricks to debug this line.

      ----

      More data:

I just found one switch that was leaking at 2.6K open and <1 ohm closed. This is a bad switch and would explain the weird behavior. I think at least this problem is now solved!

Stagg sms12p audio amp has water damage
        by edugimeno
Hi! My friend just brought this audio amplifier/speaker fro his music band saying they realized its got no sound. Led powers up but there no sound at all
I opened it and found 3 board. 2 of them are for input plugs and potentiometers, and the other larger board has the amplifiers for 2 large speakers that it drives
There's also a large toroid transformer that feeds a lower voltage to the first 2 boards and a larger voltaje (36x2 rectified close to 100v) to the power board. The power board has the plugs for both speakers
There is only one signal wire connecting the first boards...

Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15IAU7 that suffered water damage
        by Joel Ohana
        Hi,

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15IAU7 that suffered water damage. It doesn't turn on (white power light flashes when on button pressed), and the amber light flashes when plugged in.

        Symptoms:
        • Short detected – sparks appear when touching the charging port connection with board with a metal (even a multimeter probe).
        • Visible damage – after cleaning corrosion, I found 4 possibly burnt memory chips near PC3165, labeled UD5, UD6, UD7, and UD8.

What are my next steps to diagnose and possibly repair it without replacing the entire board? Any guidance would be greatly...

Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 16ACH6H Water Damage
        by Andreasbest
        Hello!
Today i received a Legion 5 pro with motherboard NM-D562 that suffered water damage, no power at all, no led, no fans, nothing.
        I measure 20v on PQ5401 at pins 5, 6, 7 and 8 but 0v at 1, 2, 3 and 4.
        Is this normal?
        Thanks in advance!

Hello to all ! I follow you but this is first time write !!
your forum is the best !!
so I’ve a2289 with water damage ! In first time other friend have clean and work ! But after some time stop working !
now, I open the MacBook and I see a lot of corrosion near backlight circuit (I attach some photos about that ) I think the problem is on backlight maybe bcs do strange boot then reboot (attach video ) I change some thing on the circuit like :
        q8400
        q8401
        D8410
        and the resistor R8431

        if I check PPVIN SOSW LCDBKLT_R I’ve 12,9v
        on...
