    Not So Good :L

    https://kipkaykits.com/surface-mount-soldering/

Found this SMD solder tutorial and wow my ocd is going mad, the chip he solders is wonkey and he leaves gobs of solder all over the place on the pins. I replace IQFP's never needed a good iron lol another one of them horrid tutorials

Guess his job will work however I wouldn't like to send something like that out :L

    Re: Not So Good :L

Let`s face it, i was even worst when i started soldering.

I was not born with iron in my hand.

But i sure do appreciate my weller NOW.

if for some reason you want to solder pin by pin then you go with micro tip; Under 0.2mm

i use tips like he got in the video but i use my best friend who is friend with all the ppl on this planet. GRAVITY

that`s how i solder KBC on notebooks motherboards
Just cook it! It's already broken.

There's really not much wrong with any of the methods he used. Those are the same methods I use. And, with experience and a more steady hand (less fizzy drinks!) you can have reasonably professional results. I would say his SMD soldering is better than 99% of the students at my university, and most of the lecturers!

Fair enough I just hate the blobs of solder he leaves tbh

I too found it a bit messy. However, it works and nobody will see it when the covers are on, though I do agree with ReeceyBurger123 I wouldn't send out a job looking like that.

You have to learn to let fails like that bounce off you Reecey, being an aspie is a superpower and a curse at the same time. The world isn't perfect and neither are the people in it.

Very true Diif I admit I have done some bodges in the past but try to be as good as I can. The key to great SMD soldering is flux I have found.

And being able to see clearly what you are doing...i'd love to get a nice microscope.

I only use a M/S to check the soldering afterwards.

Yeah, found a couple of nice long reach ones on there, but bills and my daughter always seem to take my money before i get to spend it on shiny.
I have a small battery powered scope and a loupe for checking my work, would be nice to be able to see whilst i work though.

I wanted to get a microscope for soldering type stuff but I wanted mine to have a certain things. One, it's gotta be mountable. Two, I want to be able to hook it up to a PC and view the footage live. I wanted to take a microscope like that and use it for a reflow machine I want to build. I wanted it so I could control the hot air iron from a PC, viewing live footage from the PC while I was doing it. I was going to use something like stepper motors or maybe even servo motors to move the hot air iron around and then use the PC to lower it down to the board. I thought that'd be cool.

Thats what im planning on getting, however at the moment im limited on space so not really worth me investing in it yet.

                                    Yeah, something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Heavy-Duty...kAAOxyRNJShjhC

Spork, you talking about BGA rework ?, you only need a cheap usb microscope to see in the side where a few of the balls are.

Not just BGA rework, but SMD as well. I wanted to get something nice that I could control with the PC, take screen shots, have live video, etc. I wanted to rig it up in such a way where I could control things like focus and maybe magnification. I thought it'd be nice when I used the computer to lower the hot air wand or whatever you want to call it, the camera would auto-refocus while it was lowered as well.

I don't really think I want a microscope that I can look through with my eyes, I think I want one that is more like this, just a bit fancier:

                                      http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/50-500X-8L...3D201472706545

Something that can be easily mounted.
