Platic sheet for behind boards / preventing shorts

Whats the easiest things yall use to prevent shorts under a board other then the obvious cardboard / bag that the motherboard shipped in.

I need something thin (1mm or less), and I assume the plastic sheeting used in power supplies is something that is anti static and I don't know where id get that from.
Fixed so far 12 lcd's , 1 plasmas, 5 monitors, 0 dlp's (plan to keep the dlps at 0). and 3 atx power supplies, and 2 motherboards.

Haha thanks Budm, you told me to save some of those a few years ago, let me go see if I still have them.

I do have them! Is it safe to assume all diffuser layers (the shiny one the opaque one, the moire distortion one) are static free?

I use the white one, but I believe all the diffusers have 94-V UL compliance rating. None of them is static free, it has more to do with flammability.

Re: Platic sheet for behind boards / preventing shorts

I use clear PET plastic from boxes that is sometimes used for packaging fruits and veggies. It likely isn't static-free. And most of all, it definitely isn't 94-V rated. But I always keep my redneck fire extinguisher (read: big bottle full of water) close to me .

However, I do regularly test newly repaired stuff through an incandescent dim bulb tester. This prevents things from quickly burning up or exploding if there is still a fault.

A piece of thin painted wood may be the easiest for everyone to get and use for this application. It's much more static-free than plastic and takes a lot more to catch on fire... unless something really, really is cooking on it for a while.

back in the valve days, a piece of thin card would have done - preferably red or blue!

Three 820-01700 32GB Logic Boards Same Issue: Won't Wake From Hibernate
                by ugamazing
I have three identical-spec 820-01700 boards (2.6/32/512), and ALL THREE boards came to us with the same fault, from different sources: The boards don't wake from hibernation with the keyboard or lid, they ONLY wake when you press the power button. I understand this is a very minor issue, but the boards must be fixed!

We will of course begin with the obvious (checking lid signals), but I couldn't help but notice these three boards were all 32GB variants. Has anyone noticed an issue relating to these 32GB boards in particular? I of course don't think it's a RAM issue, but it's bizarre...

                Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

Apple M1 Boards & Exclamatory Error?
                by ugamazing
We've now created a stack of 10 boards that have the same issue, which we suspect to be CPU-related. The issue is very simple--the board will not boot to anything, only showing the exclamatory sign inside a circle. No amount of DFU/restore, wipe/erase, etc, will resolve the issue. No boards have physical damage. We went ahead and replaced the SSD nands on two boards (one 02020, one 02016) and the issue remained exactly the same. We are considering replacing the CPU on one of the boards using a locked CPU, just so we can see if it resolves the issue.

Has anyone else run into this...

Best place to source RAM chips? 8GB 820-00850 boards to 16GB or 32GB
                by ugamazing
I'm looking to upgrade several 8GB 820-00850 boards to 16GB or 32GB for personal use. I am curious what the best practice and process is for sourcing new replacement chips, and what vendor(s) you guys prefer? Another question is, how do I find compatible chips and their corresponding part/model numbers? For example, in the 820-00850 schematic, the DDR chip U2600 model listed (EDFB232A1MA) corresponds to 1x32GB chip. Of course, I would need 4x8GB chips to replace the 4x2GB chips currently on the board. How do I find compatible 8GB chips? Is it as simple as searching "BGA178 8GB 2133"...

                Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

                Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...
