If you buy from China, read the fine print regarding

          - warranty
          - what is DOA policy?
          - what is return policy if any?
          - what is restocking fee?
          - who pays return shipping? Shipping from China to X may be cheap, but X back to China could be a lot?
          - what happens if you have problems?

Indeed I am a bit worried about that if i buy local i am protected buy local law though it can be a huge pain to get anywhere.

It has taken allot to save but i also don't want to eat into my tooth repair fund to much. so that $100 - $200 saving is quite tempting.

A couple of other things to investigate.

Do you need to buy from an authorized dealer in order to qualify for Rigol warranty? Fluke does.

If warranty work is required, do you send to the seller or Rigol? If the seller, will they be on ebay 11 months from now? What will shipping costs 11 months from now be (certainly higher)?

One other suggestion. Head over to eevblog.com and ask there. There are way more people who talk about test equipment and more Australians who can give you buying tips.

                Since I don't own a scope, I can't help you at all.

probably no warranty as in sellers feed back one person claims they are not authorized seller disagrees/claim they are.

shipping will be around half the cost of the scope knowing our post system /couriers

I know hence why i chose the rigol over brands that i never have heard of dave in one of his videos says it is a good entry level scope.

BTW NZ and AUS are physically separated and governed by separate governments

well I have found a authorized dealer in AUS for $384.00AUD so $421.044NZD
Seems to be a good deal

Not sure about down there but here in the US one thing I like about buying locally is I don't have to wait a month or two to get anything. Even being on the west coast standard shipping from China is a bit slow.

20 to 30 odd days to get here lol.
the china scope would have taken 15 days

DS1052E is an old model, I bought one maybe 2 years ago. They're updating their whole offer with a newer model with a larger screen and more functions available by default for free (no 30 day evaluation options and other crap).
But if you already ordered, it's still a good scope so no reason to be worried about it.

There is a very long thread on eevblog which explains how to "hack" it in software to work at 100 Mhz but it doesn't work on all versions of the firmware in the scopes if I remember correctly. I didn't do the hack because I wasn't really bothered so far, I can work just fine with just 50 Mhz, didn't need more yet.

Batronix (where i bought mine from, European store) has it for 325 dollars + shipping and maybe tax if you have something like that in New Zealand. Shipping would probably be about 70$ through a courier. Link: http://www.batronix.com/shop/oscillo...lloscopes.html

Thanks I will have a look I won't be ordering for another few weeks.
I have been considering newer models but budget is limited.

I find the possibility of going to 100mhz on the mentioned scope enticing i am not to worried either way.

seems like a better option looks like rigol are fixing the jitter issue in firmware.
