Alexia thermostat is this a good idea for for controlling your air conditioning system feedback wanted

My wife is asking me about getting one because our electric bill was that it has ever been even more than last year at this time nothing has really changed since last year last month unless the electric company has done some fuel adjustment charges I have not done any investigation into yet but I might have to but there was a time back a few years ago that I use to set the temperature warm during the day when we were not home but when we got wooden floors in our house and you have to keep the humidity down to keep it from warping I just set to a temperature to 75*F to keep the humidity down but I have to come to realization that I do not have keep it that low all the time

The issue with thermostat that you program are great if you have a predictable schedule and you do not deviate from from it very often plus my wife is not programming inclined but wants to be able to change the thermostat setting when she wants to and not wait for me to change which here is the other issue is that these type of thermostat are not very easily changed because you have to go through all of program settings to just make changes to one set of settings which is some case a pain in the a** to do

The temperature hold setting is a good feature but it in most cases turns itself back to normal programming settings and you are back to the program and setting that you have

But I have a concern about doing this type of thermostat controller hooked to the WiFi how easy is it hack and gain full control of your air conditioning system and what safe guards can you do to keep it from being taken over by someone else

I do have a garage door that is hooked up to the WiFi but what I really use if for is to make sure that the garage door was not left open by accident by someone I have no real issue now but when I first got I had issues getting it worked correctly I put a gate way adapter on my router for it to work properly I had a post about the issues I was having because the manufacturer of this device was not very forthcoming about wireless connection to your router and it you had issues and what could be done about

never let your house be controlled via the net - ever.
the company supplying the cloud services will fuck you after 1-3 years by discontinuing the product support,
or they could lock you out for various reasons.
finally, your stuff could be messed with by government agencies - specially heating controls.
there are several cases of governments talking about "maximum temperatures" and messing with cloud thermostats to "save the planet" and similar green bullshit.

      Check out: https://us.shelly.com/?srsltid=AfmBO...7QPtGtWJzytnRy
You can put custom firmware on these too.
These can run over a cloud, but don’t have to.

I really do not see a product that actually controls a air conditioner system or am I missing something about how there systems work
Just what products would I need to interface with Alexia system software

You can control boilers, infloor heating zones, ac, heat pumps etc… it is just done a different way. I’ve got my air exchanger on it. There are many Shelly devices for one purpose or another…

Can you explain how you use this system on your air conditioning and heating systems and what method you use to set parameters and so on

You control em through powering them on or off either with power or one with an isolated relay. You can mimic button pushes and can pair a certain shelly device with a wireless button. You can set scenarios, like one Shelly device detects water, another Shelly device that is paired to the first one will turn on the pump automatically etc. You can control them via cloud or direct. They don’t need the cloud in order to work. The firmware has schedulers, etc.

So for automatic dehumidification, either use a Shelly plug or a Shelly plus one by itself on the internal scheduler, or buy that thermostat with humidity to go with it and merry them two together. The thermostat humidistat will command the other shelly on or off when certain conditions are met.

I use them for air exchange (set on a daily schedule), dehumidifier control and basement lights (I am too forking lazy to walk down and back up, because of something I want to turn on or someone left the lights on again, etc.
I also used them for remote controlled reset button for devices that get hung up there is one that has an isolated relay. You can make a lot of dumb devices smart with their products. You can also use some of them as a power monitor. I have one in a metal crazy long power bar. Lets me also control the power bar and you can set it to protect. For example you set it to shut off if the current exceeds 500w. Lots of uses for these.
I haven’t hacked in a Shelly to the power button of my heat pump head… just yet.

By the way the thing about two or three years after you buy then they start playing games like that are wanting more money and telling you that you really do not own anything so I would not give a crap about this as well I just would not buy another end of story

Yes I aware of this government is capable of doing but other identities do far more damage just in different ways wanting money and threatening to not give you anything back in return I would not pay there ransom in the first place the government will play games with deny you services or want to investigate because they you are a threat to national security or whatever drum up charges they can find I do not give a rats a** about that I am more concerned about hackers and there motives are because they are unpredictable in what they are really after so just do it for the thrill of to see if they will get caught then you have the type that are just doing because they want your money and think that you can not do without I could give a sh*t about that as well

Decided to buy one and I am about to return it back to the store because of the Google user agreement they want to know where you live making it public want to know where your phone is located 24 hours a day I do not think so

So very intrusive in your privacy this is not funny anymore I will program my thermostat and be done with this crap

One reason why I use Shelly, as I can control them without the cloud shit.

It amazes me the number of people who willingly install these "smart home" spying devices where they live.

These things report back all sorts of data to who knows where... not to mention they also often become a brick when the company inevitably discontinues support a few years later anyway, or suddenly adds a subscription fee, or doubles it if there already was one, etc.

Way more hassle than they're worth. No thanks!
