How safe would it be to use in troubleshooting switching power supplies

i think a box full of switched lamp sockets to create a programable currentr limit would be better
you DONT want to power a switching psu with a source that drops the voltage - some psu's will go into a reset loop and go boom - specially TOPswitch based ones.
brownouts are bad to switching psu's

you also cant reliably use DC to power anything with active PFC.

Mine is linear and it stays that way for bench top PSU

nie if you can find a used one, torioid based psu's arent cheap - neither is shipping

              start with something like this:
              https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32528574606.html

so you can see current draw and any pfc fuckery going on.
i have a box i built with one of those and a 16A breaker/ 30mA RCD in it and a pair of test sockets on the end - very handy on questionable stuff.

                What about something like this

Digital Display 0-120V Variable Linear Adjustable Lab DC Bench Power Supply

I found this one on eBay

Din Rail Multi-function LED Digital Energy Meter AC 80-300V 250-450V 0-100.0A Ammeter Voltmeter Volt Amp Voltage Current Meter

                  it doesnt say the current
and it's not linear - it says "Switching Dc Power Supply"
                  not that it matters.

                  these look better

I have decided that I am going to go ahead with the one that I asked about in post # 8
because it uses aTL4949 ic chip to control voltage and current in this switching power supply the one thing that I am not trill about is that it use a TYN277 ic chip

This where I saw what is in this switching power supply board

                    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ib1AcwGTF9Q

Here is one for the post number one of this switching power supply tear down it is for the 60 volt version but I would not be surprised if uses the same board but with a higher voltage switching power transformer
