Upgrading LCD TV main board - successes?

I'm wondering if anyone has had success upgrading the mainboard of a TV?

Specifically, I'm considering the upgrade of the mainboard in a Sanyo CE32LC81 (32") with the mainboard of a CE42LD81 (42"). The upgrade would give an extra HDMI port and a VGA port, which would be very desirable.

From the pictures I can see online, the boards look like the same size (probably the same base), and as far as I can tell, the position and size of the connectors are identical (not 100% on one connector that goes to either inverter or LCD board, but look very similar).

I'll do a few more checks if I can, specifically on the power boards of these TVs, but just wondering if any one has done something similar, and had success. Or any other things I need to consider or double-check.

I do know that if it works, the back cabinet would need to be cut to allow the extra ports, but the current cabinet on the 32" has "outlines" of where the extra ports would be, if the mainboard allowed.

They probably need to be at least out of a set with the same panel manufacturer, the
eeprom may need changing/reprogramming and there may be wire jumpers need changing.
Its bad enough replacing like for like without changing the size.

Thanks, I hadn't really thought of that.

I had another look at the boards, and think I've spotted the eeprom, looks like it's in a socket, so could be exchanged, but would the eeprom be programmed to have a VGA input for example, or does the software detect it's inputs at startup (like a PC would do with IDE, SATA devices, etc.)?

I have seen a few boards that are for a 32" panel, it's a chassis that has been used in a lot of different TVs, matching the panel might be tricky, not just the connector that needs to be matched I guess.

I guess other stuff, like the remote control mightn't work either.
