    Kino Flo replacement components

Can anyone suggest a replacements for?

    1. N Channel Mosfet P20NM50FP
    2. NPN Transistor J5027-R

I can't find any stock in the UK

I am trying to repair a 4 bank 4ft film florescent lighting ballast. It's a copy of a Kino Flo. Hi res picture of board attached.

I've removed some other components that were visually burned out and also testing all the other components before I pop in replacement transistors and Mosfet.

Could you guys also shed some light on how to look into equivalent or replacement parts when the originals are unavailable? What criteria should I be looking at in replacement parts ?

Sorry I'm very new to electronics and your input and advice would be very appreciated.

      For the MOSFET:

Go to ALLDATASHEET.COM. Find the datasheet. Write down the following parameters:
      -RDSON
      -MAX CONTINUOUS DRAIN CURRENT
      -TOTAL GATE CHARGE
      -VDS MAX
      -package
      -special characteristics

      Also interesting: -gate threshold voltage

      Now go to digikey.com.

Search for MOSFET in the search field. Under "discrete semiconductor products" click on "FETs Single". then narrow down possible replacements by excluding all options that don't fit.
So you select all N-channels, all VDSS above 550V, all RDSON lower/equal 200mOhm, ID all equal or above 20A. Multi-select with SHIFT and CLICK etc.

For your particular case this gives 3 pages of results. When choosing packages select everything called FP or ISO.

      Same goes for other components.

Are these two items faulty? Which other parts did you find burned?
          Is it plugged in?

            Hi Longbow,

I have so far removed one resistor and one small capacitor from the top side picture previously attached.

I should have mentioned and provided a picture of the other side of the board too. So apologies for that and I'm attaching a picture of the other side of the board now.

This is just one of 4 banks inside the ballast so I can get the values and compare measurements to the working banks.

The small smd resistors near the damaged transistors and mosfet also look like they will need replacing. Looks like they've been running hot as the identification text is no longer clearly readable.

Not sure on how to test the small smd transistors Q1 and Q2 they are tiny and I don't have the skill level to remove them for testing.

I have 4 of these Kino Flo lighting kits.

2 original ones made by Kino Flo and 2 imitation Chinese ones.

What I've noticed is that the original Kino Flo kits drive the lamps harder and are about 25% brighter than the Chinese clones. Is there any way to modify the clones to get the 4ft florescent tube brighter ?

The clones are for rentals and get bashed about the original Kino's are used in our studio.

Which components would I need to modify ?

Here are some links to the schematics :

The "J5027" transistor is a FJP5027 and the "P20NM50FP" MOSFET is an isolated package STP20NM50FP.
I also recommend replacing both 200V snap-in electrolyic capacitors with long life Chemi-Con units if the replacement MOSFET and transistors work.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

                    Dual mosfet replacement help
                    by DoOm86
                    Hello.
                    I have a notebook with a shorted mosfet, it's a E6930 GA8125.
It seems to be a 30V dual asymmetric N-channel AlphaMos.
Luckily the notebook is working, so I just need to find a good replacement for this mosfet.

And here is where I need help!
It's the first time I have to replace this kind of mosfet, I checked on mouse and I found this: (mouser No) = 512-FDPC5030SG.
I need your help to be sure is a good replacement or there is another with better compatibility, since I can't find the same exact (just from China).
                    Thanks!...

                    by jm942
                    Hi,
My laptop went dead and after checking ,the main 19 volt power rail was shorted. After some checks i could identify that a high side vcore mosfet was shorted.
I replaced the mosfet and now the white powerled is present , fans start spinning but capslock shows the famous 5 long and 3 short code.

I checked the vcore voltages after replacement and i get for all 1.01 V so means for me that the driver is still working of the replaced shorted mosfet. On the Nvidia i measure around 0.8 V after the mosfets.
I did voltage injection on the cpu with 0.7V and i have a current...

How do you test MOSFET in laptops ?
                    by Jane
I tried to use this method:

                    Testing an N-channel MOSFET:

Step 1: Discharge the Gate (turn off the MOSFET)
Place the black probe (COM) on the Source (S) and the red probe on the Drain (D). The multimeter should show no continuity (high resistance or "OL" – open line).
Then, touch the black probe to the Source (S) and the red probe to the Gate (G). This discharges any stored charge in the Gate, turning the MOSFET off.

Step 2: Charge the Gate (turn on the MOSFET)
Now, place the red probe on the Gate (G) and the black probe on the

No LCD image after connector replacement – lifted components and damaged resistor (Nintendo Switch Lite HDH-CPU-02)
                    by Tomylee
                    Hi everyone,

Sorry for the person who’s going to read all this !
I'm on a Nintendo Switch Lite, motherboard HDH-CPU-02.

While replacing the left joystick, I had to remove the motherboard to access the connector underneath. When I lifted the LCD connector latch, it broke (the plastic had become brittle over time), so I replaced the entire connector.

During the desoldering of the LCD connector using hot air, three small components located just below the connector (likely 0402 capacitors) came off and remained stuck to the bottom of the...
