General Question(s) & Question About USB Jtag u-Link NT

I'm not sure if I am posting this in the right spot, I don't have any question or anything specific to one board. I am *kinda* starting out with this kind of work. I have been IT in one role or another for my job the last 30 years, and I am familiar enough with basic board stuff generally speaking. So, I dunno for example if someone told me to find a uart header, or flash some generic tsop8 something, etc I understand that kind of stuff. Point being, I'm not 100% clueless. I just don't have the specific knowledge when it comes to some of these more advanced repairs. I actually have spent the last few years doing a lot of flashing and board work in the automotive world, so much is more or less the same.

As an example, I have been reading that in order to do the MEC16xx on a t14, the only tools that can do it are the SVOD or RT809H which are the only two that support this. I was somewhat curious what else is out there, and I found this USB Jtag u-Link NT. Which claims support for the MEC16xx. I was just wondering if something like this would work or not. To me it seems that if the chip is supported, then it should be just fine? Or am I missing a caveat of some type? for myself, if I was working on some chip that for whatever reason was hard to red/flash, first thing is just pull it off the board to flash and make life easy. So does this come down to just the software for the SVOD or RT908H that has some extra function needed? Which then I am sure only runs on each tool respectively.

Also the usb jtag u-link nt just looks like a st-link to me. Which is one thing I have been generally curious about as these little things seem to pop up a lot. I would assume when you see something that looks like a st-link, but is more application specific labeled, does the developer flash new software to the st-link when they are making their software to use with it? Or are all of these just identical with different stickers on them.

I understand many here do lots of work, so having one of those tools more or less meant for computers specifically, is nice to have a tool like that.

I hope this makes sense. I am trying to ask in a very general way. I still get confused about some things.

Post the request in the bios section. The tools are proprietary and based on custom fpga firmware.

Ok, I wasn't sure where to post, I guess I didn't mean anything specific to bios either. I also found that device is not just a st-link either.

In a general way, as you put it, the jtag NT is for , well, jtag. Not like ST-Link, that is directed to arm programming. Well, both can do other things, but I mean in a general way.
You should ask the jtag NT guys what do they offer to program the MEC. Adapters, software, etc. Other software can probably program it, but those mentioned ( SVOD and RT ) have already determined adapters, compatibility, etc.

Yes I have been meaning to jump on their forum. I did figure out that the HW used is actually just a off the shelf (sorta, it is customized to an extent, but it looks like it operates exactly the same) CY7C68013A-56 EZ-USB FX2LP dev board, which is only a few dollars. Not that $70USD is very much, probably better off supporting them. I guess if for some reason you are unable to get one in your country, perhaps that could be a work around. I have not verified anything yet. Meant to post on their forum.

[Help] Lenovo Yoga Slim 7-14ARE05 (DA0LS3MBAF0) – 25Q80DVN1G Flash Is All FF, USB-C PD Stuck at 5V
            by ekozeko333
            Hi all,
I’m trying to recover a Lenovo Yoga Slim 7-14ARE05 with board DA0LS3MBAF0 Rev:F. I’ve run into an unusual issue where USB-C PD is stuck at 4.7–5V and the system won’t boot (keyboard lights flash briefly, then nothing).
🔥 The Problem Started After Suspected ESD/PD Fault
I experienced a power issue or ESD event through a USB-C charger
After that, the NX20P5090 power switch was visibly burned and was replaced
Now the PD controller always negotiates 5V @ 2A, even with known-good chargers

Nikon D800 camera - flash don’t work and capacitor don’t charge
            by corrize
            Hello, I'm stuck in troubleshooting…
The flash system works like that : when the (mechanic) flash button is pressed, the flash mecanically pop up, and a circuit buck boost elevate 7v (batt) to 200-300v (?) for charging the big capacitor. And when the photo shoot button is pressed, the capacitor is discharged in the xeon light.

In the D800, there is a first « power board » close to the battery. 2 wires (batt 7v) goes to another little « flash board ». I measured 7v, so ok.
When I press the flash button, it's detected by the system, flash icon appear on LDC display....

Canon VIXIA HF S10 A read data from inernal flash memory.
            by abajor
Hello I've had somebody bring in one of these charming little cameras to attempt retrieving data from the internal 32GB flash.
Something is damaged inside the cameras lens assembly I can hear it clunking around and it has probably dislodged the sensor, powering up the camera gives a blank screen and the focus motor sounds like it's having a fit.
The camera will not connect to a computer via USB in this state, I have no options no navigation, just power up and focus/zoom motor noises.

I think my best shot is to figure out a way to read the internal flash memory outside...

4 red flash led 65X950G boot Sony and android logo but then black
            by Ihandyrepair
            HI guys

I got here a Sony 65X950G - I tried to find any repairs guides for this model but not many online

            here is the issue
I have Sony and android logo. but then 4 led red flash lights front of the tv

I have 3.3v ref. 12v reg then T con 12v when I press the power on button
but then I get black screen and 4 red flash light at the front LED
but I get 3 led flash on the LED driver board.

I check that few X900F or C YouTube repairs, seems that if you have 4 led red flash it could be due of LED black light error
            so I tried...

Help Disabling Flash Protection Range Registers on Lenovo P360 Tiny BIOS
            by abhorsen
            Hey guys,

Hope you all are doing well. I come here from Win-Raid because I am having issues disabling Flash Protection Range Registers so I can flash my BIOS from within Windows using Intel's IFW tool/using flashrom within Linux, however I cannot due to the above mentioned error.

Here is my thread on Win-Raid detailing the whole process I went through: https://winraid.level1techs.com/t/re...h-gen/95478/27

Essentially I managed to boot into Windows while shorting PINs 1+5 of my audio chip to disable the HAP bit...
