    GM Detector

I have been experimenting in making a radiation detector using a diode instead of a Gieger Muller Tube. Has anybody tried to do this ? My latest circuit did not seem to pick anything up ,this has a Hamamatsu photo diode covered with aluminium foil.
Perhaps there not enough gamma radiation where I live to get a result !

    Any thoughts on this ?

    Is that even possible?

There must be a reason why people generally use tubes instead...

      Radiation tends to damage semiconductors.
