      I measured 0.0001V across the coupling caps with no input source, and that multimeter gives unusually high voltage readings (unless the other two I have used give low readings). Even if they forgot the coupling caps in the application circuit, it still doesn't need them.

      I never said the 0.22uF caps were coupling caps.

        Maybe I missed something, are the .22uF's between the audio-in connectors and the audio-in pins of the IC? Last time I saw this the datasheet said it was to remove any scratchy sounds which may result from cheap volume potentiometers. However, those caps were in-line or rather they continued the circuit, they were not tied to ground like a filter-cap.

          It's still a filter cap of some kind even if the drain side isn't at ground.

          At this point I'm content to let him have the scratchy sound.

            These caps are connected between the audio input and ground.

            I didn't want this thread to get this long when I started it. I have no problems with scratchy sound.

              I am performing a repair on a Sony ICF-SW55, which includes recapping (some) of the SMD capacitors on the mainboard. I am looking for verification of their values. At the moment, I'm 95% sure I've got the right values, but it is hard to find some official, credible or multiple independant sources on this.

              At the moment, I have selected replacements based on the following list of values:

              3 x 470uF 10VDC
              3 x 4.7uF 35VDC
              4 x 47uF 50VDC
              8 x 22uF 6.3 VDC
              1 x 220uF 6.3VDC
              5 x 100uF 6.3VDC

              Dear Alls,
              For sure it id a stupid question, but help me to understand. I am in a Dell 2007WFP revitalizing project - searching reason why not starting. Some resistors needed to replaced is is obvious. When I have soldered some resistors the measured (with multimeter) values were sometimes rather different written on them. I supposed these are wrong units so I desoldered and made a checking measurement and voilá the values is the same is written on. This happens only in case of a few resistors, most have the same values (+/- 10%) are written on it. "strange" SMD resistors =>103...

              So after using capacitor bungs to repair the rubber feet on two laptops, shown here:

              … I was inevitably left with some paper rolls and cans from the Sacon FZ capacitors I “sacrificed”.

              The paper rolls from these Sacon FZ caps looked absolutely bone-dry. The idea then occurred to me: what if I put a few drops of water on there? How (if at all) would that affect these already-failed capacitors?...

              I had my Quadra 840AV (which I recapped and had working) plugged in for some time without using it and randomly decided to turn it on today. Unfortunately it did not turn on. After checking the PSU, I found out I was not getting anything from 12V, only from the 5V rail. After a few minutes, I removed the PSU and plugged it back in the electrical outlet and it suddenly started making a weird sound and soon after smoke started coming out. I quickly unplugged it. I opened it up but on first instance I didn't see anything out of the ordinary really. I later turned it back on and one of the MOVs blew...
