Snubber Capacitor Vs Class X2 Capacitor

Is a snubbing capacitor fine to use in place of an X2 suppression safety? The only real difference I see is that the dV/dt is around 3 times higher than the recommended Class X2. Is this a positive or negative issue in this turntable audio device? See C601

a big polypropylene cap should be fine - you have the resistor to limit current

Oh really, ok great! Well, it's definitely a very big polypropylene hehe. CORNELL DUBILIER 940C20S47K-F. 630 VAC 2kV VDC, dv /dt 1.712kV/µs, Peak current 80A.

I assume this will suppress noise, EMI etc?

C601 doesn't suppress much noise no matter what cap you put there. It just saves your switch and that bit of noise your switch makes.

Oh Ok, That is good to know. I guess the bulk capacitor after the bridge rectifier is doing all the ripple smoothing and noise suppression. Thanks, I'm learning some good stuff!
