    blew a 2N3055

I was playing with a 2n3055 as a voltage dropper circuit with a zener diode, and accidentally pumped 4A into the base in a common emitter configuration.

The transistor instantly blew and shorted all ways around. No smoke (TO-3) but the transistor gets tossed into the round file.

    *sigh* oh well.

I played transistor toss with the exact same transistor driving a 120v led on a 12v battery through a transformer and that transistor. It did work!

Back many years ago I also played with 2n3055 with a LM723CN or something similar to this part number
I also fried some as well

was surprised how quickly it failed.
today I had an errant switch mode PSU controller and a poorly thought out turn off for a mosfet, well the mosfet would not turn off and drew 5A through the inductor, heated up with smoke, and survived...
