    Need soldering station

Hi, I'm new here but have been browsing these forums about replacing caps on motherboards and LCD monitor power boards. I'm a computer tech that has been doing part replacement and figured it's time to start fixing some of these boards that have bad caps on them since some are hard to find replacements. I have successfully replaced the caps on 2 monitor power boards and am thinking to start on motherboards. I have an old Weller 25w SP23L soldering iron and a Radio shack 64-2060b desoldering iron. I know by reading here that I should upgrade to a new soldering iron/station. I need some advice on a station that I've looked at

    http://www.circuitspecialists.com/prod.itml/icOid/8396

Will this be sufficient to do motherboards and what is the best tip to get for it? Do I need a multimeter if so please recommend one?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated
    Thank You

I know it's more advanced than you are probably looking for now, but one of the 'old guys' here recommends this unit which is the same brand as what you are looking at.
      http://www.circuitspecialists.com/prod.itml/icOid/7789
As it's the same brand as he recommends so my guess is it's a good unit.

The weller MXM showed is also good.

      I like Hakko 926 or 936 with a 907 iron

[926 and 936 are only different on the outside.]

The brand you are looking at is actually a Hakko copy-cat,,
      - but that doesn't mean they aren't as good.

        Here's a $50 temperature-controlled iron that can put out up to 70W: http://www.howardelectronics.com/goot/px201.html

Hi, thanks everyone for ther replies.

          @PCBONEZ
The one you showed is out of my price range but in the future maybe it is something to look at.

I can get a free dmm with the one I'm looking to buy. What are the best tips to get?

          Again thanks for the replies

The point wasn't to get that model but that that model is okay so the -brand- should be too.

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
                by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

Recommendations of quality soldering station and (separate) hot air station
                by caprider
                Hey,

I'm looking for some recommendations of a decent quality soldering station and a separate hot air station. I'm just a hobbyist, so even if (ultra)premium tools are not required, I still want some good tools. They should be available in Europe.

I now have a TS100 and some soldering irons and looking for some better tools.

                1. Soldering station, budget around 200-240€
JBC BT-2BWA seems to be a good product in the budget.

                2. Hot air station, budget around 200€
Up to now I've found ATTEN ST-862D to be a good option....

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
                by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

                Sumsour station 8586D error H-E
                by rmjimenez455@gmail.com
Hello everyone, next I have the following problem with the Sumsour 8586D 110v dual station I bought it a year ago and it worked wonderfully, now it presents the H-E error on the soldering iron side, the hot air side works correctly..... I disassembled the soldering iron head because the manual tells me that this error is due to ceramic resistance problems, in effect, I measured it and it is open, I bought a new one that is working verified in a soldering iron and nothing.... The same error continues, I proceeded to open the station and check visually, I found a totally damaged 1R00 surface mount...

KSGER C245 Soldering station PSU 220V only?
                by mkbehbeh
I purchased this soldering station when it was on sale at amazon. It had a slew of one star reviews, but the price was low enough that even if the controller and PSU were toast, the handle tips and stand were worth more than the price. All of the reviews mentioned that the unit was either DOA, or died on the first use. I looked on Aliexpress and the first clue was that KSGER still sold the 220V version of this station, but all of the 110V versions had been discontinued. I figured That there was a problem with the 110V on the power suppply and the controller would be fine.

                I am...
