How to protect your eye when using UV light

    Guys ,

Recently I bought some blue UV glue.
And somewhere I read that you must protect your eyes for the UV light.

What is the best way to do that ?
Are there special goggles for that or are normal sunglasses enough ?

so what are you going to use, a laser? a flashlight? or a big flourescent tube?

only the tube needs protection, the flashlight and laser are not in the risky frequency range.
although you dont want to point the laser at something that will reflect it back in your face.

Do you know what kind of UV you are using?

            Thanks ..

I bought the blue UV glue and I got a 5 maybe 6 UV led flashlight with it.
            On ebay

So , I only need to be careful and special glasses are not necessary ?
Or do I still need one ?

And I read that it takes about 15 minutes to cure the blue glue ??
So , the leds will be on for that time ??

Can you provide info about what you actually bought? 15 minutes to cure with UV?
Are you referring to Bondic/ or cloned UV curing glue?

I do not know why he uses the word 'Blue UV Glue' then if it is solder mask.\
He just needs to show us what the heck he is talking about.

Re: How to protect your eye when using UV light

There are lots of UV glues that have recently become available and will cure/set when exposed to UV light. Apparently if it will cure with an LED then these are likely UVA cure glues and you probably are OK without protection as long as you don't stare into the light too long. A lot of the time, regular soda glass safety glasses/goggles are sufficient, and UV rated sunglasses work fine as well if needed. Polyethylene terapthalate plastic may not be sufficient.

The UVC cure UV glues that require mercury lamps, those now require special protection. I don't know if there are commonly available UVC protection available, but then again it's not just your eyes you need to worry about.

Re: How to protect your eye when using UV light

Well , it seems that there is more to UV glue than I know.I bought the glue to glue some loosen pads on the laptop motherboard.

Not sure though if I would better use epoxy for that.
But I also can use the glue for glass and plastics.I will only use the led flashlight.

I do not plan to make printed circuit boards (so no solder masks for now)

UV reactive glue is great for glueing clear things like phone digitizers and LED lenses, it's no good for glueing opaque things.

This stuff is perfect for gluing loose tracks and pads. It's designed to take rework temperatures unlike CVA glue.

So , it is just to glue some loosen pads on a laptop MB.But I believe that the chemtronics epoxy is a better choice.

Still I wanted to ask about the eye protection , because someone mentioned it.

                                  that's not blue, it's clear.
but you cant use it to glue pads because you cant shine a light on it under the pad!

                                    Hi guys
I'm trying to repair this powered mixer. Sorry this is a bit long but I want to give as much info as possible to help get an answer,

As soon as it powers on the protect light comes on. There are relays that connect the speakers to each channel of the amplifier but they never click. If I connect a 60W light bulb in series with the mains supply it comes in bright then goes to maybe 30-50% brightness - it seems to dim a little further over time

I have power to the amplifier, I think it was as about plus/minus 50-60V for the main amp, and plus/minus 15V...

                                    by sam_sam_sam
I have a Lithonia Lighting 65-Watt Gray Hardwired Compact Fluorescent

I also have back when Light of America had these light bulbs available for yard lights

The issue with Light of America was the blast boards had all most certain board failure while bulbs hardly ever fail

While the Lithonia lighting fixture has all most certain bulb failure

So I have modified the Lithonia lighting fixture to accept the Light of America light bulb and see how long this will last

I have only had this light fixture for not more than a year if it...
