    Re: ESR readings

That's still not sensitive enough. You'd have to divide the last portion of the scale (0 to .2) into 20 marks (.01 ohms each) to see a problem.

Don't waste another $35. Save your money and get AnaTek's Blue meter.

Still not fine enough resolution for troubleshooting mobo caps? I see range of 1.0, 0.5, 0.2 and 0.

        Darn...

        Read feedback:

"Unit was made in and shipped from China not from Verdun, QC, Canada as stated."

I'd say pass on this deal.

          Re: ESR readings

Well, I bought my ESR meter on Ebay, from a seller in Poland. It is housed in a brown bakelite case, is powered by a 9-volt battery, and is obviously homemade.

This cost me $60 CAD. I looked at the Blue meter, but it would have cost me about $150
assembled and I didn't know if I would be interested enough in recapping to make it worthwhile.

Long story short, I have become a recapping enthusiast, done about 10 motherboards and many soundcards.

The Polish meter is accurate enough to spot bad caps, but any good cap wil go to a zero reading within a second or so. It detected some bad OST 6.3v 1500uf caps, reading was .20. When I read the caps off-board, the reading was 1 (maximum).

When used on bare capacitors off-board, it will give readings on new caps very close to the published specs.

Is the blue meter way more accurate?

If I were doing this for a living as opposed to a pasttime, I would opt for a better meter.

            Re: ESR readings

is your meter simillar to the one used in this clip
            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRoBt...layer_embedded
? (go to 2'38'' into video)

such meter obviosuly has one decimal point less of a precision than either esr blue, or this
            http://translate.google.com/translat...tm&sl=ru&tl=en
which is much cheaper than esr blue and it measures capacitance (costs about 70$)

esr micro was discussed in this thread
