For some time now I have been looking for a LCR / ESR tester and this one keeps coming up on searches Mastech MS5308, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this.

Re: Mastech MS5308 LCR Tester
Personally, I have this experience on capacitance measurement with a cheap LCR-meter (called Victor 6243): It can properly measure polar electrolytic capacitors. But when I want to measure non-polar ceramic SMD capacitors, either it shows no measurement (disable to measure) or it sometimes shows a value which is not close enough to the real capacitance. I do not know why.
This experience is probably true on all LCR meters. So I do not use the LCR meter often.Last edited by caspian; 02-08-2018, 04:06 PM. -
Re: Mastech MS5308 LCR Tester
I had inaccurate readings when testing an axial ceramic capacitor on a Silicon Chip Kitset LC meter, while the same capacitor tested normally on a DMM and on a capacitance meter.
However, disc and SMD ceramics tested fine on the Silicon Chip meter.
I still don't know what caused the discrepancy."Tantalum for the brave, Solid Aluminium for the wise, Wet Electrolytic for the adventurous"

Re: Mastech MS5308 LCR Tester
The discrepancies are in the way the devices test, mainly though I was wondering if the Mastech is worth the extra cost. I have been known to use a function generator and scop to test capacitors otherwise I rely on a fluke 79 series 2 meter for capacitance measurement.Comment

Seems like a good thread about it here: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testge...at-the-moment/"Tantalum for the brave, Solid Aluminium for the wise, Wet Electrolytic for the adventurous"

by sam_sam_samI have had with regular AA batteries that leak this meter is expensive new I already replaced the battery battery clips once and the same thing happened again and I am tried of so it is getting modified to accommodate lithium ion batteries that are the same size excluding the positive terminal and removing the battery clips I will have enough room for the BMS protection board
I going to put 3 lithium ion battery in parallel with the BMS protection board and a way to charge the battery externally and heat shrink the battery pack and use a JST connector so I easily remove the battery... -

I want to change the scale of an analog meter, to monitor the charge of an li-ion single cell, so the needle at the end would point 4.2 volts and the 0 on the meter would point 2.5 volts or so, i tried to add diodes or a zener in series with the meter but the changes of the ambient temperature also changes the voltage value on the meter
I wonder how i can accomplish this so the meter would be precise at any temperature ?

by sam_sam_samAbout a month ago we had a transformer jumper wire that burned in two different places between two transformers caused over $200 thousand dollars worth of damage to VFD drives at least 10 of them and a memory card and quite a few power supply as well
Now we have most of the equipment that got damaged back up and running except a feeder that has issues and we are waiting for some parts for
Now we also have another piece of equipment that was blowing fuses on the 110 volt controller switch circuit with the āEā stops and one switching power (24 volt) supply and a transformer... -
by momakaSo after using capacitor bungs to repair the rubber feet on two laptops, shown here:

… I was inevitably left with some paper rolls and cans from the Sacon FZ capacitors I “sacrificed”.
The paper rolls from these Sacon FZ caps looked absolutely bone-dry. The idea then occurred to me: what if I put a few drops of water on there? How (if at all) would that affect these already-failed capacitors?...-
