    2in1 rework station

i want to buy this since i noticed that having a hot air and a temp controlled soldering iron is necessary to repair electronics
right now i use a 60watt solder iron non temp controlled

just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this one

    Re: 2in1 rework station

i know someone with that, it works well.

have to add though, i would be looking for a unit with a fan in the handpiece rather than a pump in the base these days.

final say - it's still a damned good price if the shipping is low/free, a few years ago those cost something like $150

just decided to add, that iron is good for small work - dont expect to recap motherboards with it easily.

      Re: 2in1 rework station

Been thinking about getting something to rework SMT lately as well, alas dont really want to pay for it, it's for hobby use only (but don't want one that will die in 2 hours.)

I already have an old temp controlled iron, but it doesn't have a temp readout (but it does have a desolder pump). Think I will find more use in the 2-in-ones due to the temperature readout?

personally i dont like combination units.
        better to have seperates.

you can get cheap hot-air for about 40

36$ shipped for the hot air units with the ffan in the handle. I have been very happy with my hot air so far. 20$ will get you a soldering iron kit with readout if you have a laptop power supply.

got a link at that price?

i'm talking about the ones with a base - like this:

My temp controlled solder iron has no readout of current temperature and has an analog control to select temperature.

I did see a couple $40 or even less hot air in handle guns on ebay, alas I wonder if I should get the solder iron with it and pay a bit more. Another $20 for a separate solder station if I supply a laptop PSU? I don't have any spare laptop PSUs so that would be additional cost...

                any 24v transformer is good.
use the one from your 60w iron.

he's talking about the ones that use cloned hakko T12 tips.
best irons under $150 the T12 based ones!

my 60W iron? Don't have one... My 45W iron is direct drive 120VAC and my solder guns are 1V or 3V... Not sure what my temp controlled unit is, but kind of silly to break one to make one...

I use a "paint stripper" heat gun to blast parts off a SMD board, wonder if I should hack up a temperature controller for it, that would be an interesting project instead of buying a SMD station...

                                      well,
a fan in the handle is better than a pump in the base, and cheaper to make.

that said, the VERY cheap ones could do with better soldering and possibly better firmware in them.
                                      see here.
                                      http://www.eevblog.com/forum/reviews...stom-firmware/

i have the older pump-in-base type.
                                      they have a few problems.
1: if you kink the hose, the handle can overheat.
this can happen without realising it because the hose has wires in it so their is already not much room for the air to flow.

2: if the above happens, you can trash the handpiece or element.

                                      3: they are anoying.
i dont want to use the word "loud", it's more of a penetrating hum that gets on your nerves in a quite place.

                                          Good day.
i received used bga rework station wds-580 which was not going above 300c despite the parameter was set to 350c, Everytime beeps at 300c so i did a factory reset and by mistake washed data and log etc. now the station boots to a white screen.

Does anyone has a firmware for this station and want to share with me. i will really appreciate any help possible..
