that's a ZHONGDI - hence the ZD in the model number.
i have one of their soldering stations - they are good for the money.

all desoldering units are maintainance heavy,
i owned a weller ws80 and used it several hours a day, so i know this well.
unclogging the tip of dried / burned flux, changing filters etc.

I did see the eevblog video on his China desolding station, and dave did get it to work good, but he needs to make a follow up video on long term durability. Mine will get regular usage, probably every other day for an hour a day.

I see the lf-8800 is $400, it's a combo and would take up a lot of bench space. If I didn't already have a nice solder station I would consider. How's the after sale support?

I read your post, it's an emotional roller coaster lol. From being amazing to a piece of junk. But it was nice seeing the good support from the vendor.
I feel like I'm taking a risk no matter what I buy, but the hakko should have the best long term support, it's just too bad replacement heating elements are $60.

Does any one here actually have the Hakko FR-300?
I know every one says "Don't buy the china junk buy the Hakko". The 808 is discontinued, while the new FR-300 performs better it has a 25% one star rating on amazon. That's terrible considering the half price Digital Aoyue 474++ has a 0% one start rating. The FR-300 seems to have heating element failures all too common, with reports of pump failures to. Plus the stand looks useless.

I'm ok with spending $265 for a quality tool that will last for a few years, but it looks like the FR-300 is a pass. So now that has me considering the china stations that have been getting good reviews. For example:
    ZD985
    ZD915
    Aoyue 474A++
    Aoyue 8800
    S-993A, S-995A, S-997P or S-998P.

I love my fx888d, but I'm just worried that there desoldering station has a design flaw.
If any one has any recommendations I would love to consider them before I hit the buy button! Thanks!

ZD-915 vacuum pump motor mount service alert
    by sam_sam_sam
If you have this Desoldering Gun Station there is something you should be aware of the two screws that hold the motor to mounting for pump can come loose and make raddling noise

One note this unit has been repaired already once because of switching power supply regulator ic chip failure
Now this with the vacuum motor mounting issue yes I give this Desoldering station a very hard work out and use about every weekend to do some type of project

The fix is taking the vacuum pump assembly out and take the metal cover off and you will see the two screws on it

    ZD desoldering station pump rebuild
    by stj
    just did one.
    works great.

    so here's the discoveries.
the pump "modules" have 4 parts, the main body, the outside bit, the inside bit - screwed to the main body, and the diaphram.
the failure is the inside bit, it has a rubber coating for some reason that becomes tacky and breaks down - contaminating the diaphram.
so you need to clean everything to get rid of all the tacky black stuff.
    then reassemble it.
    *BUT*
you must put the 2 screws into the assembly only finger-tight.
if you tighten it properly the valves dont work....

Hoover FM216LI cordless vacuum refuses to charge
    by flat-earther
I have a Hoover FM216LI cordless vacuum which isn't charging its internal battery.

I opened up the unit, and it has 6x Samsung ICR18650-22P cells connected in series.
5 cells were at about 3.3-3.1V. one was at 2.4V, so I assumed this cell was bad that's why the vacuum wasn't charging so I replaced it with another 18650, but after that the problem still persists, the vacuum turns on a bit and then cuts out since the batteries are empty.

So I think the over discharged battery wasn't the culprit, it was a symptom of the unit not being able to charge its batteries....

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
    by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

HP EliteBook 840 G6 how to dump without desoldering
    by hans_meier
    Hi,

I have an "HP EliteBook 840 G6" and would like to know how to dump the BIOS flash chip without desoldering. Putting 3.3V on VCC of the BIOS chip with a programmer does not work (seems to enable the PCH). I have read some general notes about connecting the CPU reset to ground or to bypass oscillators. There does not seem to be a reset line for Intel i5-8365U. Just RSMRST, but it's only accessible on the other side of the mainboard. Is there an easy way to dump the flash without desoldering and without removing the mainboard? Does anyone have experience with this? Maybe...
