Need advice on some good old HAMEG oscilloscopes!

    Hi guys,

I'm trying to find a good old Hameg analog oscilloscopes with frequency range 20Mhz -100MHz and 2 or 4 channel. I've been searching and found various models from series starting 200 to 1000 and so on. But only thing is I can't compare them and find the good with extra options. I'll be using for almost all kind of brown goods, consumer electronics and white goods (some internal units) PCB fault findings and other troubleshooting. Based on the work I do I think its better for me to go with good scope with extra features. So far I've been looking into HM604 and HM605 and HMZ65 Component tester and really couldn't find absolute comparison wheres after reading the manuals as I didn't find much difference in features.

So guys please help me in choosing the right ones as I don't mind if you mention from other brands as long as its not expensive and do the work for me.

PS: I'm great fan of german and japan makes

    Thanks.

just watch the condition of anything you buy.
most used scopes in the u.k. - specially hameg or tektronix are ex college / university stuff.

You're right and I know the prices are touching sky high here even for used stuff. So I thought of buying from Germany which is lot better with extra £10 for postage.

In this recision period people here in UK are ripping off pockets If you are not aware of used market prices.

          Hi,
i can really recommend the good old Hamegs. Since my early days in electronics i always worked with them. My first was the HM203, 2x20 Mhz bandwidth, which did a pretty good job for abaut 20 years. One simple problem with defocussing, found a cold solder joint. Second problem was far more dramatical: burnt hv winding of the main transformer. Nevertheless good quality. My actual scope is the HM407 with digital storage. Don´t need that option very often, but sometimes pretty useful when developing with microcontrollers. But the most useful option is the component tester, since i´m repairing brown goods too. With a little experience you can interpret the pictures on the screen, even a quick and dirty check of cap´s ESR is possible. I would highly recommend not to miss that option!
          Cheers,
          Wolf
