Re: prefered solder paste and 858D review
Go and read about UK mains plugs and why historically it was and is important to have a fuse on the live wire and in the plug, instead of just polluting the thread here.
Just because most of the Europe uses Schuko sockets or has plugs compatible with Schuko sockets, doesn't mean that polarity is not important in all countries around the world.Leave a comment:

Re: prefered solder paste and 858D review
You do not know about AC plug, why don't you do some research before posting stupid answer since you are professional.
The US per UL does not require fuse on both Hot and Neutral (Neut is tied to ground in the panel. Double insulated units can have no polar two-pin plug without ground prong. The Euro requires to have have DPST power switch (our products are sold Euro with TUV/ETL testing) and fuse since Schuko plug without ground pin can be plug in in either direction. UK plug has fuse in the plug itself.Last edited by budm; 03-01-2014, 11:05 AM.Leave a comment:

Re: prefered solder paste and 858D review
The fuse should not be on the Neutral side.

But yes, in order to keep every one happy, you need to add double fuses, so no matter of how you will plug your cable, you will have compliance with wikipedia.Last edited by Kiriakos GR; 03-01-2014, 10:58 AM.Leave a comment:

Re: prefered solder paste and 858D review
Thanks! For some reason i didnt think of digikey, etc.
Btw, one thing that surprised me was that the fuse was on the neutral line. Arent fuses supposed to go on the hot leg?Leave a comment:

Re: prefered solder paste and 858D review
You can get solder paste from farnell.com, newark.com in US, digikey.com , mouser.com . It will last for a few months in the fridge... seal it in a bag to last long time.
(edit : for some reason, maybe cause i'm tired, i read under your name "i'm a hardcore greek" and i assumed you're in Greece, hence why i mentioned greek distributor and now I edited it)
ex.
for cheap and good : http://uk.farnell.com/multicore-sold...-25g/dp/149968
for quantity and quality : http://uk.farnell.com/multicore-sold...00g/dp/5091111
You can search for same stuff on newark.com, it should be there.
It mostly degrades by drying out. If it's too dry, you can buy some quality isopropyl alcohol (IPA, 99.5%+) and put about a spoon or two of IPA in the bottle and let it mix by itself.
If you keep adding ipa when needed, it can last more than a year.
I have the Atten 858d+ and it's similar.... I agree, it's a good device for the money.Last edited by mariushm; 02-27-2014, 07:01 PM.Leave a comment:

prefered solder paste and 858D review
I just bought a 858D off ebay and apparently, I cant find solder paste in town for love or money.
Considering it goes bad and i wont use much, does anyone have a good source for small quantities or something relatively cheap?
858D review:
Surprisingly, the case is metal. It towers over my hakko 888d, shaming the hakko's plastic shell. Controls are easy, up and down for temp and a dial for air speed. The handpiece looks heavy, but it doesnt feel that way. The handle is well balanced and the sound is not loud. The air warms up quickly, usually by the time it takes me to get into position. The first time you use it, it will smoke lightly, probably burning off oil from the construction of the unit. Point it away from the work until it stops. Auto shutoff of the heat when placed in the holder is a nice feature, one i didnt expect at this price point. Fan still runs until the unit cools off.
Using it is amazingly simple. I pulled some pc133 ram chips off a laptop dimm (destined for a linksys router upgrade). It was nearly effortless. I was amazed because I remember the mess a had made in the past with a cheap iron and some chip-quik.
As far as durability goes, it looks like a simple unit. The trasformer seems small, but there's lots of room in the box to upgrade if required. The only thing that looks like it may be a problem to repair is the handle, and I think replacements are available for those.
Anyway, great purchase for the hobbyist.
Mine is an unbranded 858d from ebay seller dddera.

by dicky96Hi guys. Well I thought solder paste was just solder paste but apparently not
I watched this short video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSb1fgCMUug
I want to try solder paste for resoldering BGA chips and LGA sockets as I am having no luck at the moment. I have no problem safely removing the old part, it's getting the replacement one to solder which is where I am going wrong. The Type 5 solder paste link he gives in the above video says it is not available.
I want to use the paste like in the video on this thread

by Veyron7887Hi. I have Asus X55C laptop from year 2013. It has i3-2328M CPU. I replaced stock thermal paste with high quality thermal paste. Before thermal paste replacement, I measured CPU temperature Around 65-70 degrees Celcius with stock thermal paste. If after the replace thermal paste, I measured CPU temperature around 80-84 degrees Celcius and fan don't stop when system is idle. I replaced the thermal paste several times but still did not change. Where is the problem?

by myth77Can someone recommend any good UV solder mask? But i need a solder mask that will stand high temperetures. The thing is...sometimes i have a bigger cooper ripped from the board, lets say mosfet pad... i reconstract it with cooper sheet, then i "glue it" with solder mask...then i use UV light...and let it cool a bit. After, i try to clean the cooper of extra solder mask..and till that part all is ok. But, when i use a soldering iron to solder that pad/cooper...the solder mask gets weaker or destroyed and finally the pad is ripped again from the board .
Is there any solder mask... -
by caspianDear members,
I have got an ordinary gray thermal paste that has no name/model on the box.
I put some of this thermal paste on a 128-pin QFP IC. A bit of this thermal paste was put on pins of the IC.
I tried to clean the pins by thinner but the thermal paste cannot be cleaned from the pins properly. because the pins are tiny and the thermal paste is stuck between them.
Is it possible that the thermal paste damages pins of the IC in long term by creating corrosion or something?
Is it safe to leave the thermal paste on the pins?
I guess the thermal paste... - Loading...
