Re: Rework soldering iron station 852D+

I connected a 40w bulb (lowest wattage I had) across the motor terminals and it lights but dimly and doesn’t increase in brightness with increasing air speed knob, only when on full air speed does it get brighter.

So seems like a controller issue. How would I go about figuring out the problem? Weird that sometimes it works. I tried gently tapping on components when it’s acting up hoping maybe a bad solder joint but it had to affect

then it could be the pot, or the chip - i think it uses a 555 timer to drive the triac.

    my old air station did.

I measured ac voltage at the air control and it steadily rises from 38vac on lowest setting to 118vac on highest.

When it cuts out it measures from 28-34vac on any setting except the highest which kicks the pump back on at 118vac

Anyone experience a problem where the air stops randomly unless turned up to the full setting of 8? Then it’ll either cut out again when lowering the speed or it’ll work fine.

Would it be the pump that’s going or dirty potentiometer?

I don't have to imagine anything. I know they won't send out free stuff. Fine, I'll email Fluke. Maybe they'll send me a new 87-V. That'd be nice. I'd be sure to talk about it on badcaps all I like. Might even mention it on eevblog! And for just the low price of a new 87-V. How can they lose?

    Yeah... whatever.

Blue and yellow wires look to be the leads of the sensor.

Just a simple continuity test at the soldering iron plug up to PCB, is all that is needed so to make your mind of what is happening.

By un-soldering the sensor wires you may measure the sensor resistance, parts exchange will assist if sensor is broken.

The guy in this video he used even more words and examples than what they are needed.

Oh, sounds like you are on your way to resolution.

Id open up the iron and see if everything is in order. I suspect the thermocouple is broken or out of position. I doubt the heater load is monitored.

so this is there reply same as the other 3 they sent read bellow

'Dear customer , i have received your ebay message before , If shows SE ,pls make sure all parts connected well first , pls insert the iron handle into the machine first Before send out ,all item pass the check to confirm it works well ,but due to the bump in shipping way ,there may other problem caused if everything is connected well, but still shows S-E, pls check something. 1. use the tweezers and put into the input 2 pins at right side, if the display shows normal. that means the machine is working well. but if it still shows S-E, that means the machine is not working well. it has technical problems. 2. use one wire, pls peel off it and connect the both wire into the input pins. if the display shows normal. that means the machine is working well. AND here is the video to help you how to test it. 1. http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XNjQwOTQyOTA0.html 2. http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XNjQwOTQ1MDcy.html Hope for your suppport to solve it ,thanks'

If you're satisfied with this solution, you can let the seller know by sending a message in the Resolution Centre. If you don't want to accept this offer, we encourage you to send the seller a message with a solution that you'd be happy with.

Otherwise I'd open a blog tomorrow with free samples from Rigol

Yeah, I guess that one would work. But note it's got EU plug, you'd have to change the plug to use it in your UK sockets.

Be advised that even though it says location of item is UK, it probably isn't physically in UK, or it's a Chinese seller that sends a big package at the end of each week and then someone in UK reships them. Just saying don't expect getting the thing in 2-3 days, assume it may take 1-2 weeks to reach you.

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
    by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

Recommendations of quality soldering station and (separate) hot air station
    by caprider
    Hey,

I'm looking for some recommendations of a decent quality soldering station and a separate hot air station. I'm just a hobbyist, so even if (ultra)premium tools are not required, I still want some good tools. They should be available in Europe.

I now have a TS100 and some soldering irons and looking for some better tools.

    1. Soldering station, budget around 200-240€
JBC BT-2BWA seems to be a good product in the budget.

    2. Hot air station, budget around 200€
Up to now I've found ATTEN ST-862D to be a good option....

    Sumsour station 8586D error H-E
    by rmjimenez455@gmail.com
Hello everyone, next I have the following problem with the Sumsour 8586D 110v dual station I bought it a year ago and it worked wonderfully, now it presents the H-E error on the soldering iron side, the hot air side works correctly..... I disassembled the soldering iron head because the manual tells me that this error is due to ceramic resistance problems, in effect, I measured it and it is open, I bought a new one that is working verified in a soldering iron and nothing.... The same error continues, I proceeded to open the station and check visually, I found a totally damaged 1R00 surface mount...

KSGER C245 Soldering station PSU 220V only?
    by mkbehbeh
I purchased this soldering station when it was on sale at amazon. It had a slew of one star reviews, but the price was low enough that even if the controller and PSU were toast, the handle tips and stand were worth more than the price. All of the reviews mentioned that the unit was either DOA, or died on the first use. I looked on Aliexpress and the first clue was that KSGER still sold the 220V version of this station, but all of the 110V versions had been discontinued. I figured That there was a problem with the 110V on the power suppply and the controller would be fine.

    I am...
