Hi Guys!
I am not an electrical engineer. Repair is a hobby of mine. In the last year I have purchased a digital and analog multimeter, and a soldering station. I recently upgraded my soldering station and bought a hot air rework station with a preheater. This has made working on smd boards soooo much easier. I want to go a step further now and by an esr meter. I have 2 devices that I am looking at and I would like some professional advice on which to choose, if any. I work with smd components a lot so I was considering on getting either:
1. smart tweezers st5-s pro
or
2. bk 879b with a pair of tweezers
considering that they both add up to approximately the same price they fall in my range. the bk has a wider range for the c measurings, but the smartweezers seem to be easier to use, considering that they have the auto mode. I am aware that in circuit measuring of any caps is a questionable act. Do any of you have any experience with any of the above mentioned devices in smd repair? any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance!Comment

The analog meter just needs to be in the right scale. So it is with digital displays. But an auto-ranging ESR meter helps.
In the Youtube videos description there is another link to the design of the ESR meter used and more useful info in calculating ESR and interpreting results. It filled in some of the gaps in my understanding of the whole ESR issue.Comment

Good day.
i received used bga rework station wds-580 which was not going above 300c despite the parameter was set to 350c, Everytime beeps at 300c so i did a factory reset and by mistake washed data and log etc. now the station boots to a white screen.
Does anyone has a firmware for this station and want to share with me. i will really appreciate any help possible..

mine has stopped working fully
it started with turning off when switched on then after a few off and ons it worked sort of for awhile

I been playing with a recently acquired IR6500 rework station and watching lots of YouTube tutorials to see how to use it with not much success. I’ve only recently joined badcaps but going through the forums there is a lot of knowledge here, so though it best is if I ask my question here.
1. Firstly is the IR6500 any good for BGA rework or should I be spending my money on a better one.

I was looking to upgrade my main multimeter (Asita MD591) with something that has more features. I'll use it mostly for board diagnostic and diy repairs. I've been eyeing out many of those multi-function ones from Aliexpress but can't seem to make my mind up. Here are the features that I'm looking after:
- Autorange
- DC volts up to 30V
- Accurate Resistance
- Diode test (Beep mode)
- Frequency up to 200MHz
- Capacitanze up to 5000uF
- as cheap as possible
Other functions are not needed but those which are needed...
