    TG210 2MHz Function Generator

    Wasn't sure where was the most appropriate forum to post this, but since it's test equipment, I thought here...

    Anyway, I got donated one of these boxes today, it's blowing fuses.

    Anyone familiar with these instruments, and might be able to provide me with some starting points for testing?

    EDIT: Also, does anyone know what the thing in the photo is called/used for? It was in a kit, and has thin bits of metal at both ends, which don't seem to be connected.

      Thanks for the link about the tool.

      I've attached a photo of the front and inside of the instrument. Made by Thurlby Thandar Instruments. Voltage is selected (230V/115V) by flipping the fuse holder, and was set correctly for our 230V here.

      From the power connector, I guess the fuse position directs the juice either through the red or orange wire. Blue comes from the on/off switch. Then from the other side of the windings to the board on the 3-wire connector. The 2 fuses there are still intact. With a good fuse in, power momentarily gets to the power LED, but the fuse blows pretty quick.

        Disconnect the 3 wires that come from the secondary of the mains transformer (red-black-red) and see if the fuse burn again.

        That way you can, or not, put the transformer out of the equation...

          Here is the manaual. Does it have the correct fuses(see pg-8)?

            Thanks, yes, both fuses were the correct rating (125mA), the connected one was blown, the spare blew when I swapped it in, I have no more fuses of that type. I'll get a box of new fuses, and see what happens when I disconnect the board from the transformer. If it doesn't blow the fuse, I guess the transformer should be good?

                Make sure you get the time-lag fuses (T125mA).

                  Ok, got the T125mA fuses, disconnected the 3-wire connector, and the fuse gets blown.

                  I guess this means the transformer is bad.

                  The label in the transformer reads as follows:

                  22115-0180/3/3
                  19.10.:5


                  The plastic moulding has some markings that can be seen highlighted in the composite photo of both sides. I also tried to highlight what I think is the manufacturers logo (CVP or CVD, maybe).

                  Anyone know how to interpret these numbers so I can get a replacement.
