Re: Soldering iron recommendations?
I've always used a Weller SP-23 25w soldering iron (no, I don't know why the model number is 23 but the power rating is 25w). I personally prefer the conical tip; it lets you get right into the holes to keep the solder hot when removing components. This iron has a round handle, not a fitted one, so it can be used equally well by right-handed or left-handed people. I should know; I was born left-handed, but my parents converted me to right, and I still occasionally do things left-handed including, when necessary, soldering. I like the power of a 25w iron; enough to get the joint warm and keep it that way, but not enough to really overheat anything, as long as you're careful.Last edited by AK0R; 11-16-2005, 10:00 PM. -

Re: Soldering iron recommendations?
I've seen it with tips for less than $12. I just bought some replacement tips from Knight http://www.knightonline.com/solder1.htm. They also have Ungar gear. A search on Yahoo (+SP-23 +solder) yielded 135,000 hits. You'll find someone that has what you want.Comment

by kalemaroniHas anybody tested this product? Posting this question on a Facebook tech group I'm in got a few responses like "that kind of thing corrodes the tips" and "just using normal solder paste is much better" so I'm not looking for generic responses like that, but rather, does anybody know for certain whether this exact product is good or bad for soldering iron tips?

by tony359Hi all,
I am testing a USB powered soldering iron. It's made by Kaiweets but I believe it's also sold under other names.
As a standard test, I checked whether there was any voltage leak from the tip - that said the thing runs on USB-C power delivery so am I correct that the whole unit is floating and not grounded? If I check, I measure 90V at the tip but I have a feeling that that is not relevant? Maybe caused by that capacitor between primary and secondary inside the PSU? I do not see current flowing at all.
In other words, do you think it's expected and... -
by capriderHey,
I'm looking for some recommendations of a decent quality soldering station and a separate hot air station. I'm just a hobbyist, so even if (ultra)premium tools are not required, I still want some good tools. They should be available in Europe.
I now have a TS100 and some soldering irons and looking for some better tools.
1. Soldering station, budget around 200-240€
JBC BT-2BWA seems to be a good product in the budget.
2. Hot air station, budget around 200€
Up to now I've found ATTEN ST-862D to be a good option.... -
by clearchrisSomeone gave me two of these 100/140w weller soldering guns. Yes, I know it runs current right through the tip, but might be nice to really get some heat into some big wires that need to be soldered.
So, worth a place on the bench, or chuck it?
