TV comes on for a few seconds with backlight, then clicks off, red LED flashes 4x, indicating backlight failure. I unplugged inverter board and still does the same thing. How can I start to troubleshoot this?

Re: Sony KDL-40S2000 Chassis 40WAX2
Can we see the pictures of the board? I believe in SONY TV, if you disconnected the power to the Inverter board then the main board will not see the feedback signal from the main board so it thinks it has problem with the inverter board, I think, I did not try that on my SONY to find out for sure. Same thing for the SONY T-CON board.
If you get the LCD panel model number and look up the spec, it will tell you which pin on the inverter board is for the error signal.Never stop learning

Re: Sony KDL-40S2000 Chassis 40WAX2
Example of CHI MEI screen spec sheet.
As you can see, pin11 of the inverter board for this CHI MEI panel is an ERROR output pin, 3.3V = OK, 0V = abnormal.
Most company does not use that pin (no error detector circuits in the main board)Never stop learning

Can we see the pictures of all the boards so we see how they are connected together? I can see at least 3 fuses on that picture, F001, 002, 003, are they OK?Never stop learning

Where can I chk voltages, is it looking for a 3.3 and 5v? Can I unplug the inverter board then try to bypass the detection to see if TV stays on?Comment

Re: Sony KDL-40S2000 Chassis 40WAX2
It looks like you have two inverter boards linking together, I do not see CN7009 in you pictures, what are the connectors with Red/black wires and another connector with white/gray wires?
That is a reason why we ask to show the whole set up so we can see how many boards it has and how they are link together.
Please remeber one thing, since we do not have the TV or the boards in front of us to take good details inspection, good pictures are very important when trying to troubleshoot complicated electonics equipment from afar.Last edited by budm; 07-09-2012, 12:20 PM.Never stop learning

Re: Sony KDL-40S2000 Chassis 40WAX2
Really trying Bud, appreciate your patience.
CN7009 is on the main board, and the connector referenced in the inverter power failure circuit posted earlier. There are 7 wires, 4 go to PS board (Gnd, Power_On, Ac_Off_Det, Power5) as shown in the last pic, and 3 go to inverter board (Dimmer, Backlight, Panel_Det)
Do you know based on the schematic what Panel_Det should be?Last edited by kevinm34232; 07-09-2012, 01:03 PM.Comment

Re: Sony KDL-40S2000 Chassis 40WAX2
OK, to fool the main board to make it thinks the inverter is OK, we need to find out the DC voltage at the Collector of Q7008 and the chassis, it should be close to 0V right now if the inverter circuit is bad, please verify that then I can tell you what to do next.
Did you download the training and service manuals?

Re: Sony KDL-40S2000 Chassis 40WAX2
OMGThose components are on the bottom of the board I was trying to get to bottom of board w/o removing all the connectors and wound up breaking one off the board. Oh well. Tomorrow Im picking up the same model from someone with a broken screen so it's not a total loss maybe that connector can be fixed.

by m1ch43lzmHi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic... -
by cheeky2For anyone interested just repaired this Sony Main board TV that had a 2 blink error code, the chassis is a RB2G which is common to quite a few different Sony models. The Ceramic 10uF 25V X7R 1206 capacitor C9114 was shorted which took the smd 2A 0603 fuse out F9101. This was powering the Buck converter TPS54332 which caused no 5V output from it.
See the attached picture of the locations of both components. I also attach the best service manual I found for this board for anyone else in a similar position of trying to repair this main board. It's not specific to the TV model however it gives...01-08-2024, 05:56 AM -
by jb_BakHey guys great forum glad to have found it. I bought a Sony XBR 65X900C cheaply because it didn't work. No signs of life at all not even a light/led. All I hear is a brief high voltage sound when I throw the power to it.
Didn't see any obvious signs of damage so right away started checking voltages. This is what I see:
Power Board Connector that goes to Main board
CN6401
Pin 01 NC
Pin 02 NC
Pin 03 "BL_ON": 0V
Pin 04 "N/C"
Pin 05 "STBY 3.3V": 3.5V
Pin 06 "GND": N/C
Pin 07 "AC_OFF"... -
by howardc64All left and right refers to looking from rear of TV (or looking from front with TV upside down)
- TV came with vertical bars and no image. Found faulty TVS on left buffer board. Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
- Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault

by delpiero3Hi everyone, newcomer in this forum, i watched tons of video from Sorin, i like the way i calmly explain things, i did quite some console repair, i am not that bad at micro-soldering, but troubleshooting where the issue is, is definitely where i still have progress to make. Usually i was able to fix the console because the failure was obvious, or because i was able to find someone with similar measures on the board and was pinpointing what to replace that way.
Nevertheless, let's say, i don't come as a total beginner.
I have this old laptop, which suit perfectly my needs, with the... - Loading...
