    FSP250-60GEN heatsink mod and tweak

This psu sure has tiny heatsinks and since I have some leftovers parts from other fsp psus I decided to beef this one up a bit. I'm going to experiment with changing other components too and see the effect. Maybe configure it for higher output.
This model had 9n50c fets for the pfc and 5n50c on the primary. I changed the 5 amp fets to 9amp ones and fit a bigger heatsink. All of the heatsinks are at least 1/3 times larger now. Input cap was a 150uF OST which I replaced with a 220uF Rubycon. The psu had a 4 amp bridge diode so I put in an 8 amp instead. The glue on the original pfc coil is burned. The coil itself looks ok...
I also replaced some of the caps next to the heatsinks and fit bigger filter coils.
The total cost was really bargain, I used junk and new stuff I already had on stock. Hope it wasn't wasted

Testing the unit with load gave some issues. The 3.3 rail gets 3.57volts high and there is a slight whining noise. If I adjust the regulation the noise stops but the voltages get too low. I also noticed that the common coil for 5 and 12 Volt gets slightly warm. I was tracking back the 3.3 sense line but couldn't figure out which resistor to adjust to lower the voltage. I'm really curios about ripple so next week I'll take this unit to work and measure the outputs with a scope.

That's awesome! you have it hooked up to a kill a watt to see how far it could go? What kind of protections does it have?

      Gr8!

I would get better caps in the secondary though

The whining may be just normal inductor noise, or it could be an unstable feedback loop.

It could probably do 250W or more. The protection is handled by the Ps223 and I'll try to mod some adjustable 3.3 rail.

Yeah those ost caps are a bit risky. Every single one is a 1000uF/16V and they test okay. The diameter 8mm as always in these gln/gly/hen/gen fortons, as far as I know.

This psu also had seperate 0.8Amp 12V output, but I removed that part and now there is an empty space on the pcb.
I really want to figure if this noise thing is a real problem. I just don't have a scope at home... yet.

Use a tube or fat straw to listen to where the sound is coming from, and the straw keeps your ear safely away from HV

So, the sound comes from all the chokes There wasn't any before the mod. Maybe I shouldn't have "upgraded" to bigger ones.
Also I'm going to get a scope soon. I just can't bring stuff to work all the time anymore... kind of.

Hm, maybe you should upgrade the caps xD

I did put back the original magamp choke and that fixed a 3.3V issue and the noise too. I won't touch the OST caps for now.
The pfc coil gets a bit hot according to the probe it's 50-61C degrees. It originally had burned glue on it anyway.

KDM 480W PSU upgrade succes! (opinions?)
                  by bauto601
Back in 2020 i bought a (2nd hand) compact ATX psu to replace my current one. My PC case only fits very short ATX power supplies so i didn't really have the choice of buying a decent 80Plus unit. The current unit is a modded YoungYear unit that i made a thread about a while ago:
A "nice" YoungYear unit? - Badcaps

The "new" unit is a KDM-M6480 480W psu, the 480W number is a typical KDM bullshit claim of course, but the 24A rating on the 12V rail seemed reasonable and the "Active PFC" claim gave me a bit of hope that this was going to be decent-ish....

                  A Dead/DOA Gigabyte GP-P450b 450W ATX PSU
                  by momaka
More eBay specials: this time a Gigabyte GP-P450b 450W ATX PSU for $8 with free S&H. Listed “For part/not working”, as usual. Showed up in a beat up EVGA box without any padding… but that's understandable given the total price. PSU made it out fine without damage. It's a non-modular (yay!), pretty modern-day looking PSU with a black paint and all black cables (meh, not my favorite, but figure it's good to keep a few of these in case I do need one for a more modern PC build, just so my old gray boxes don't look too odd in there.)

And a shot of the label:...

KingWin ABT-650MM 650 Watt ATX PSU [PCB: SW8835REV:A]
                  by momaka
For today's thread, I have a KingWin ABT-650MM ATX PSU. Official web page with the PSU specs is still up and can be found here:
                  http://www.rmac.kingwin.com/products.../abt_650MM.asp

I just can't help it when I see a broken / for parts PSU on eBay that's listed for cheap and looks at least somewhat interesting. Well, OK, I won't lie – on the outside, this PSU looks anything but interesting. It's a plain gray box with colorful “spaghetti cables”.

What mostly drew me into buying it is its 2x PCI-E power connectors...

Seeking Advice on Enhancing Heatsink for Main Processor on SAMSUNG TV Motherboard
                  by Ven
                  Hello everyone,

I'm looking to upgrade the heatsink on the main processor of my TV's motherboard for better cooling performance.

The current heatsink is a square-shaped one (2.8cm x 2.8cn) with a basic design, and I believe a more efficient heatsink could help with thermal management and potentially extend the life of the TV.

I'd appreciate any advice on the best type of heatsink to use, specific product recommendations, and tips for installation.

If you've done a similar upgrade, I'd love to hear about your experience and any challenges you...

How can I test coil whether it is really broken or not?
                  by chth96
I have old game console which have connected to 220v outlet by previous owner and It is not able to turn on.

I checked continuity of fuse in PSU unit with a multimeter which is shown in the below picture with a orange circle around it, and It seems that fuse became open circuit.

I also found that as well as bulging capacitor, there is unidentified coil which has residue all over its surface

unidentified coil which has residue all over its surface

I want to replace this round black fuse and unidentified coil if it got broken.
