    42PFL7422D/37 Service Manual Needed

Has anyone worked on one of thest Philips 42PFL7422D/37 LCD TV's yet?

I got one yesterday. It has sound but no picture. The guy I bought it from stated that this failed the same exact way before. A tech came to his house and swapped a board out it worked for a year then the same problem again, except now the warranty is gone. I have only been researching so far cause I'm stuck at work overnight - woohoo!!!. I have seen where some people have replaced master inverter boards or slave inverter boards. I have to do some testing to see which is bad. What's the chances one of you guys can find a service manual for this? I hate swapping boards and I'd like go to component level.

Pics of boards to come - as soon as I can get home and get sleep.

Here are 2 pics. I see there are some inverter boards on ebay for this model. Must be a very common failure just with that little board.

By the way, thanks for the service manual. Seems to be the exact match.

To replace both inverter boards costs about $130 on ebay. After spending about an hour on this, I found a burned chip (BD9897FS) on the slave inverter board. In the pics below, pin 26 (VCC) is fried. I checked and the VCC reads 24.2 VDC. Is anyone familliar with this chip?? Is this a common failure? I sure hope I can find this chip - loads cheaper than buying both boards.

Amazing what a little searching will do. B&D Enterprises has them in stock at $20 each. Both Digikey and Mouser list them as a special order item at about $3 each (quantity 2000).

Thanks guys for the assistance. I have 3 on order from ebay. They cost me $5.50 a piece with $4.40 shipping = $20.90
I hope it doesnt take too long for shipping. This 42 inch LCD takes up too much space on my work bench. I'll update post once parts come in.

if those light blue caps are what they look to be (lelon) -> get rid of them too (once you got that toasted chip fixed up)

FINALLY!!! I got the chip in to fix this. After replacing (BD9897FS), the unit works. Now comes the hard part. I have to decide whether to keep this unit OR the Panasonic 42 inch plasma that never gave me any trouble.

Well, I ended up selling it. I bought it for $80 and parts cost me $20. Sold it for $400. I'm now looking for the next unit.

Wow, I'm surprised any informed buyer would pay $400 USD for a used 42 inch TV.

In Canada, you can buy a new 42 inch plasma or LCD for about $579 + taxes + environmental fee. AND if you buy from Costco, you get a 90 day return and a 2 year warranty.

Good for you to make $300. And I would have kept the plasma vs LCD!

This killed the repair business and created too much garbage in Canada.
The environmental fee should be 30% to 40% on top of the selling price if they really care about the environment.

Being that I made the second repair to this model LCD TV (the first one was a warranty repair - board level only), my store bought Panasonic Plasma was the logical choice. I never had any problems with it yet and the speakers were better. Over all though, my wife told me no! - TRUMPED

Can you post a picture of the master and slave boards? I want to see if they are the same and have that same chip.

By the way, they sell a repair kit for this TV on ebay. Do a search for the model number and you'll find that this is a very very common failure.

OK - I am obviously going to be a newbie to this... I have a 42PFL7422D/37 and I do not see an inverter board. I did find a T-con board, but where everyone else's pics show a panel next to the SSB, I have a flat surface. Could it be that my TV doesnt have an inverter? Basically I have the typical (or so it seems) Philips sound but NO picture. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks so much!

If you post picture of the whole TV opened up, I can view the picture and show you where the inverter boards are located. There were about 3 different models of this same model number.

That IC must have taken you a while to desolder.
"We have offered them (the Arabs) a sensible way for so many years. But no, they wanted to fight. Fine! We gave them technology, the latest, the kind even Vietnam didn't have. They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, 'Save me!' He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."
