    3g phone +bluetooth laptop= AWESOME!

    well, now that i found my bluetooth dongle and hjave a working laptop again, i figured out how to use the DUN function on my phone. sinci i have unlimited data, i figured i migh as well use it on trips. right now i am on I65 in the back of a minivan posting it off my laptop... totally cool!

    i got it running in ubuntu by swapping the stock bt manager with another called blueman, which made setup totally easy. took 1 min to set up

    any idea how to make it work in windows? my laptop is a dualboot. my data plan is ATT medianet.

      never mind, the trick is to leave the username and password blank and to have it dial *1***99# (if it is non blackberry)... cool!

          you got lucky, some bluetooth stuff is a bitch.
          i have a bt dongle with a CSR chipset,
          Linux wont run it - atleast not with the standard bluetooth stuff.
          Windows also wont run it unless you use BlueSoliel.

              it is an IOGEAR gbu321... broadcom chipset. works ootb.

              i might sometime soon buy the bt module for my laptop... one less usb port wasted.

                  Never liked wireless data plans. Too easy to rack the bill up.

                      The thing to watch out for is extra data charges when roaming. WMWifiRouter has a built-in option to not allow me to broadcast my data connection if I'm roaming. Nice feature to have...

                          how our bill is broken down:

                          base charge- $60 att family plan with rollover, covers my mom's phone
                          $20- dad's phone
                          $20- my phone
                          $10- unlimited text for my line
                          $20- unlimited data for my line
                          calls to other att phones is free.

                          no roaming fees on the data or text...

                          $5000 is what happens when a moron does not get unlimited and pays per text (or maxes out a ___ per month plan and pays primo for the excess).

                              a lot of people in europe have been stung by the damned i-fone.

                              it has spyware that tracks your gps location.
                              every 24hours it connects to apple & downloads the log.

                              here is the fun bit.
                              people on holiday for a week or 2 got massive fone bills for roaming internet connections when they never even made a fonecall!

                                      dang... its called CHECK YOUR CONTRACT BEFORE YOU SIGN IT!!!

                                      still, one would think they would put in an exception for that, but then again, money is money and the greedy ba$tards love it!

                                      maybe apple needs to put in a setting to turn it off for those purposes... then again, not likely.

                                      don't mix roaming charged plans and apple i guess...

                                          the provider contracts are generic and make no mention of spyware or background connections.
                                          hell, i doubt company's like vodafone even think of it.

                                          the spyware doesnt connect or relate to the service provider - it connects to apple.

                                                              I have two TCL A30 phones.

                                                              Old Phone: This phone worked fine for years, then stopped charging If you plugged a charger into it, the phone would make the charging sound, the phone would tell you it is charging, but the battery icon would not have the charging symbol in it and the battery would not charge.I tried new battery, same behavior.

                                                              New Phone: Works fine, bought as a donor board to try and repair Old Phone

                                                              My interest here is to repair Old Phone, using components parts off New Phone if needed. I am not interested in replacing Old Phone with New Phone....

                                                              I have an Acer Aspire A315-42 laptop. I generally leave it on for long time by closing down its lid (so it enters the sleep mode). Recently, it rained quite heavily in out area. And the humidity and moisture seem to be high. So one late evening, after I opened the lid and turned on the laptop, it did power on as the blue light turned on but after it booted to the desktop screen, just 5-10 seconds after both the screen and blue light went out and laptop shut down (the blue power light turned orange).
