    Windows 7 system restore

My windows 7 install is a little busted up now because the pc tried several times to restart its self while my generator was going ofline. It ran out of gas/carbon... In windows 7 will a restore put the extra progies back in that I have added or will I end up with a bunch of dead icons just like in Xp?

Yea, while running off a generator you need a good UPS, preferable double conversion (also called online)

Unlike an interactive or offline UPS it is constantly connected to the load, so it filters the input power and outputs a truly clean AC waveform at a constant voltage...

Of course with your other problems it might be hard to get one, however maybe like me you are lucky and is able to find one for free if you can just manage to carry it away

It depends on when the system restore point was made. Any system changes after the restore will be gone, but any file system changes will remain

If you have a second drive you can use the windows backup to make an image of your system. You can then restore it from the setup DVD and it will put your system back exactly as it was. Same as making a ghost image.

Snagged this from Goodwill for $5 and the battery was even still good.

i used to have one of those. there was something about my power that there was some noise or something that came though and made the thing constantly go from AC to backup power. I have something like 5 other UPS's in my room and that one would click back and forth something like 15 or 20 times a day while the other would be maybe 1 or 2.. sometimes none.. I complained to APC thinking that it may be defective, they sent me a newer, better UPS in place of it and i was to send the old one back. before i got the new one, i got a filter splitter plug for the AC power... suddenly it stopped flipping between battery and AC power. IF 9i could remember what the noise in the line was called i would tell you , but can not remember now. but i still have that filter hooked up. Just a warning that if that happens to you, you will know what the problem is.

I know what was going on there. You take DC and run it through a diode bridge to make AC. Caps are used to smooth the peaks to make DC+ DC- into an AC sighn wave. If the caps don't have enough ass you end up with square waves. AC things just don't like a square wave form at all. Now I could be all wrong and I'm not trying to be a smart ass ether. In other words just maybe you were beyound the limits of that UPS.

beyond the limit?? i very highly doubt that.. unless you think running a 26" CRT TV and a DVD player too much for a 725 VA... or maybe that was a VCR and not DVD player.. was a while ago..
