    Media center Linux

I have a computer in the living room at the moment running XP Pro but I want to turn this into a HTPC type of thing.
Basically it's a P4 2.4Ghz with a Gigabyte GA-8i848P-G motherboard, 1GB RAM and an ATi 9250 128MB AGP graphics card. The 80GB hard drive should suffice for my MP3 collection and movies etc. shall be run off my external 500GB HDD so it should be okay.
So basically I want a Linux OS that can do all of this and also support my Plasma TV's ever so low resolution of 848x480 pixels.

So what's a good Linux for this? I also want it to be simple and easy to use for my parents etc.

    Thanks.

    Re: Media center Linux

    any Linux,
    i use Mandriva.

    it's the app's that count.

if your just playing then XBMC is the thing.
if your after pvr function using tuner-cards then myth-tv is the answer.

both are optimised for use at low res and can be run from an IR remote.

XBMC runs in Windows too doesn't it?

it does, but not so well - less access to resources.
and it cant route the output to the second socket on the videocard - i'v personally seen that.

second output in the video card? I'm only using the one DVI port so is that ok?

Dyi led/lcd amp'd tv media center
              by Junior247
So I have a 15" LED/LCD AMP'D TV with a radio and CD player that I want to convert to a media center by having it play music and videos from a USB flash drive or SD card. I have gotten it to read an SD card but I cannot navigate the USB Interface with either the control panel or remote control even though everything appears to be connected correctly. The one thing that is different, however, is that the DVD Interface Board (AL10-M) that I am using to read the SD card is from a different TV (a Hiteker) whereas the motherboard (CV3553BL-D) appears to be from an AMP'D. Pictures of the DVD Interface...

[Marantz SR5012] Center channel keeps going into ASO/Overcurrent protection.
              by acedogblast
First off I would like to thank this community as it has provided me with great information that has helped me greatly on my repair for this Marantz SR5012 AV receiver. I am creating this new thread as the other 2 that I have created here has had their original question/problem solved and I plan that this is the final thread on my repair. Please note that this is my first time repairing audio amplifiers so I may not be aware of common issues and things to know.

Lets start at what I have done so far. Random speaker popping on all channels is fixed by replacing the 2 large filter...
