i agree with just about everything that was said.. another thing that you never want to uninstall without being a pain in the end is internet explorer 8 after updated. The colors will not work right, screen looks mess up with different things.. and i have seen it happen many times.. If i do a reinstall of a pc, i install IE7 to update it (on the XP end) and then do a manual update, choose just IE8 and when it goes to ask you to install, click dont install. it puts the IE8 update in the recommended and takes it out of the high priority list.
As for the removed SP3.. well, I would never uninstall a SP from microsoft, especially after it has had updates after that SP unless it is an absolute must. Usually, it causes nothing but problems..
As for the A+ certification. I am not going to say that the ones that get them are dumb, but most of the people that i see that have them, they are the kind of people that are book smart, but are not good at actually figuring out the problems. When i was in school (CIS Networks degree), in my class, there was 2 sides to the room. We sat where we wanted. all the people on one side were the book smart kind and the other side were the common sense kind. I was on the common sense side and we had no problems doing the work and getting it done. The side with all the book smart people were always asking us for help in getting the work done. most of them on the book smart side got there A+ certifications. most of on the other side did not. I have heard the same response from most computer stores that i have talked to too. I never got mine, but can say with 90% certainty that i would pass with no problems if i tried, but do not care to get it unless i have to. Like they say, just because you can pass a book test does not mean you know the work.. it just means you are good at guessing.
In any case, in the end, you can back up your desktop icons, you can back up your files, you can reinstall the programs, but if you lack experience and knowledge of fixing the problem right, then later you will just end up making more of a problem and end up needing to reinstall it anyways.. and from the sounds of things, it would like it would be the best thing to do.. just make sue that you reinstall the stuff that she uses so it does not come back with a lot of questions / problems.
