Power Supply Upgrade

I just pulled a dead Allied/Apex/Hon-Hai 400W PSU out of my PC. I need to replace it with something that is not going to fail so quickly. I run this PC 24/7/365. Any suggestions??

Specs:

AMD Phenom x3 8750
2 X 2GB OCZ RAM
Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe
Ati Radeon 4600
6 SATA Hard Drives
2 DVD-R/W
4 80mm Cooling Fans

my file-storage unit is:

fic va503 mobo
amd k62 500mhz cpu
gforce-4
4 scsi hardrives
3 ide hardrives.

all powered by a delta 350w psu for the last 14 years 24/7 other than downtime for cleaning / fan replacements / upgrades.

a psu that can actually supply what it claims can run a lot of stuff.

i would think that it would be pushiing it a little with the 400, but can not say for sure.. here is a prog to tell the max usage that you will use..

Check it out and it may help give some ideas.. also, do not forget that it is max usage meaning if you put 2 roms, but never use them, then youcan easily drop 50 or 60 watts from the list on what you usually have running.. it should let you know the about usage for the max that can and will be used if everything is used at the same time..

For my system which is similar to the OPs it says 500watts. I have a 600 of rather questionable quality.

I think most of those power supply calculators grossly overestimate. 30W for a burner isn't even close to realistic.

I put my machine in (as close as possible) and it said I needed 450W. In reality it maxes at 275W measured from the wall, so more like 220-230W DC. My good quality 350W PS has no problems.

As long as the PS can withstand the startup draw of those 6 HDs it should be fine. The one 370forlife linked to should have no issues.

i just checked that site.. they changed they calculator and is not anywhere near the accuracy that it used to be. my system said that it would be 340 watts.. amd athlon 2.2 gig processor, 2 roms, 2 DDR sticks and 2 drives plus a few extras, network card, etc. i know i dont use over 300 for that.. i found this one that is much more accurate then that one..

this one says i use a max of about 260 watts.. that is almost 80 watts lower for about the same setup..

I appreciate all of the suggestions. I was actually thinking of upgrading to a 500W anyway.

I used the newegg calculator and it came up with 622W which is serious overkill. The calculator kaniki sent me to came up with 497 which seems a bit more accurate.

Any suggestions in the 500W category with 6 real SATA connectors?

can sata drives be set to spinup by command or with a delay like scsi so they dont all start together?

Even so, both the corsair and delta have a 30A rail, more than enough to run that computer and the spinup of 6 drives.

Well, actually the delta would have it a bit higher because it has 2 rails, so the OCP is set higher than that to prevent a huge loss of amperage if you had a ton of hard drives and little cpu+video cards, or vice versa.
