    Audio apps

I have an IBM iseries laptop here that I am trying to turn into an mp3 music player to serve as a party jukebox. It has a celeron 700 MHz CPU, 192mb ram and a 20gb hard drive. It currently runs xp pro pretty well. But I was thinking if there was some media player software that would be suitable for it? I'd even switch to linux if I had to.... So what should I do?

    Thanks.

    Re: Audio apps

depends on what you want to do.
if all you need is a playlist to drop songs into, then foobar2000 or winamp is fine (foobar interface is simpler and less bloated but the winamp's media library is easier to use imho)
if you want to do some basic mixing then maybe you can get away with winamp with plugins. (haven't looked into those a while) .
and there are complete dj software packages available of course (eg PCDJ) but most of them cost $.

      Re: Audio apps

Any MP3 player will do it. I can play mp3s on a 266mhz p II. I would dig up more ram for it to make it a little faster. You might even be able to do visualizations.

Help troubleshooting an audio problem with an RCA SGT-250 CED Player
          by samson7point1@yahoo.com
The Problem: This player has a toggle switch to select between Stereo, Mono R, and Mono L. Regardless of the setting it outputs the sound to both the L&R audio jacks. In the Mono R position, the audio output level is normal (from both the L and R audio output jacks), in the Stereo position the audio output is about half the volume, and in Mono L, it's about 3/4 the volume. Something about putting it into Stereo mode is causing the volume to drop significantly and I can't figure it out.

The player processes the audio signal using two different reference frequencies. The "R"...

          Victrola multi-player - No audio
          by kokopelli75
          Hello!

My mother has a Victrola Navigator player that stopped functioning after a storm. I checked out what I could - all player functions appear to work, but there is no audio output in either the speakers or the headphone jack. I suspect (with my limited knowledge) that the amplifier part of the device is toast. Photo of the suspected board is attached. There's separate boards for front display, record player, etc. This board has a section for power regulation and a section for amp. There's a UTC7266 7+7W dual bridge amplifier IC and a CSC2314F sound processor IC on the board. Visually,...

Roland KR-3500/4500 Digital Piano. Crackling audio sound on all keys -Fixed
          by i_am_patch
Hi All. I had a Roland KR-3500 Digital Piano (similar to the KR-4500) that exhibited a Crackling audio sound on all keys. After reading somewhere about someone with a similar issue who had replaced all the Electrolytic caps I decided to also go down that route. (Spoiler : It worked !) After some basic troubleshooting I determined that it could be noise feeding thru from the Keyboard scanning since the Demo tunes played back undistorted and the Audio amp / speakers were fine ( Inserted an Audio signal into the rear Audio input). After extracting the main board from the shield, I replaced 7 Capacitors...

No Audio Bose Wave Music System AWRCC1 Am/fm CD Player
          by mferna14
          Hi All,

I am working on Bose Wave Music System AM/FM CD Player Model AWRCC1. Suddenly NO AUDIO at all. Not from the AM/FM Radion & neither through the CD Player. I used the headphone, still no sound. Opened the unit & checked the motherboard to see any shorts or any blown components but all seem to be in a very good condition. The test of both speakers are fine & they work well. The display seems to be ok as I see when I switch over between radio/CD with teh remote control & the time shows good. Does any know what could be the problem or any kind of repair tips &...
