Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1
A Pair of "Broken" Sony TC-WE305 cassette decks. Like most ~20 year old cassette decks they needed new belts.

These are probably some of the easiest decks to service the belts on.
1. Remove the screws holding the top of the case on (2 on each side, one on the top of the back).

2.Once inside remove the small brass screw holding the motor to the mechanism, the motor will rotate away providing easy access to the belts.

3. Replace the belts.

4. Repeat on the other transport.

I gave it away, I was just happy to see it put back to use.

It's a bit of an unusual looking PSU, I'm going to try and fix it.....

Back when that system came out with those specs, this was indeed truly nearly top-of-the-line. Actually, that Radeon HD5850 video card can still play some modern-ish games of today.

yeah right) so I only picked up one.
yeah right) so I only picked up one. Granted back then people were throwing them out daily, so they didn't seem "worthwhile". Plus everyone that knew me (family, friends, etc.) was making fun of me for picking them up and/or still not giving up on using CRTs. (Some still do today, but now I know not to listen.) I didn't have the technical knowledge back then to try to explain why I thought the image was "better" (at least for my needs)... but 10+ years later, now literally every tech channel is like, "Oh, CRTs are cool, especially for gaming/video".
