    Re: key logging

Why wouldn't it affect other computers with Conexant audio chips? Was the file containing the keylogger customized for HP?

At least Windows has a generic driver for HD Audio devices. It even sounds better than the Conexant driver that was installed on my laptop.

Close. You know those "hp" printer "drivers" that are ~500+ MB? Sure, the actual driver's in there, but what about the ~480MB of other stuff?

Of course, as well as any other that "packages" the actual driver. HP "pioneered" this back with their shitty disposable printer-looking things about 5 years(?) ago.

The Conexant audio driver for my Toshiba laptop is 59.4MB. I remember the MaxxAudio "enhancement" software being two-thirds of that. That isn't as bloated as HP printer drivers, but it is unnecessarily large for an audio driver. The driver for the ESS ES1869 in my K6-2 system is less than 2MB, includes an "enhancement," and sounds better than anything from Conexant I've used.

Maybe not really related to the topic but how does the ESS ES1869 sound compared to a SB16 Value? (CT2770)

I've never had one. I would guess that it depends on the analog circuit on the ES1869 card.
