LeCroy LC Series Oscilloscope LCD Conversion

Over a year ago, I decided to convert my LeCroy LC Series oscilloscope to an LCD display.
The fit of an 8.4 inch LCD (Mitsubishi AA084VC03 to be exact) in the bezel was just about perfect, and I crafted the brackets to fit the LCD in the oscilloscope from scrap sheet metal, which was then covered in electrical tape.
Other parts used were a compatible VGA LCD controller and its corresponding AC power supply.
To hide the shiny metal surround of the LCD assembly, I placed electrical tape on the LCD screen before carefully painting the surround black (the tape was then removed when the paint was completely dry).
However, the front panel controls can be accessed through a gap in the bezel, and the AUTO button (adjusts picture size to the video source) should only be performed when a test pattern is displayed through the service menus of the oscilloscope (active video area extremities are used).

Overall, the end result was quite good.

My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

    Very nice!
I take it the LeCroy internally uses VGA signalling for its CRT tube?
Did you have any issues with the VGA signal timing/resolution on the LCD?

How hard it would be, to upgrade a Rigol DS1054 to a bigger screen?

          probably impossible,
afaik the rigol uses a digital matrix panel, not a "monitor" panel.

            Nice looking scope.

IBM LTO 7 Tape Drive - Dust Sensors??
              by RetroComputingGrotto
I have a Quantum SuperLoader robotic tape library that uses an IBM LTO 7 tape drive which is constantly complaining that it needs cleaning. If you insert a cleaning tape, it performs the clean and resets the cleaning counter to 0 hours. It should only require cleaning every 50 or so working hours but after as little as just 1 hours use it requests cleaning. We've purchased a new cleaning tape along with new LTO backup tapes but that has not resolved the problem.

I have taken the library apart and can see no noticeable signs of dust inside. I have removed the tape drive from the...

              Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

LG 75UN8570AUD panel issue fixed with tape.
              by triplefour
I've been seeing a lot of the new TVs (samsung and LG only i think) maybe 1-2 years old suffering from sudden panel death and have been over 50% successful bringing them at least most of the way back to functionality if not all the way, with the tape masking of the LVDS pins method.
add this one to the list. the issue was on the left side of the panel and i ended up blocking just 3 pins on the connector that joins the two panel boards that make up the left side of the panel (it has 4 boards total) i didnt get the picture back to 100% perfect. i spent hours fiddling with which pins to block...

              Hello,

I know some might say... just buy another one. Sell it as parts..!

So had this AMP for quite some time. Recently I saw light smoke coming out of the AMP. Had my fire extinguisher close by. Just kidding. Turned immediately all devices off from mains.
Let things cool a bit, and opened up the amp device. I clearly saw on the main board which hosts the 5X amp (5.1), 3 10 ohms 1W resistors had their leads looking black, while the rest of the remaining 2 x 10 ohms were brownish as being installed from factory.

Spent some time downloading the Service...

How not to Damage an Oscilloscope
              by Tarot Superstars
              Hello.
I have jut got my first analogue oscilloscope. An Isotech 620 20MHz.

I want to learn how not to damage it, and I found instructions on the internet obscure.
They talk about ground, earth, floating ground, this, that....
But they don't actually say anything anything useful so far.

              I want to know:
Don't connect exactly this to exactly there or it blows up.

For example, I am tracing a signal from a function generator in an audio amp, or testing for voltages in different parts of a circuit.
I want to know what not to connect...
