USB Stick "Open With"

got one of the computers in the office running XP that when the user puts his usb stick in, the open with window opens asking to choose which program to open the stick.......

was working fine before.
default xp drivers

if i choose the program "explorer.exe" it does what you would expect but then the next reboot its fucked again.

any ideas?

try using windows explorer to browse the stick.
not explorer.exe which is windows shell, but program from accesories menu, or where ever it is...

If you can shut it up long enough to get to the properties tab of the removeable drive you can see the autorun tab.
In there you could uncheck the prompt me everytime and check the'open folder to view files' or the 'take no action' at the bottom of that option scroll.

close the window that comes up when it asks your what to open it with, then go to my computer, and open the usb stick from there.

Try this file ... should work 100% (Only if ur system is virus free)

See if you can coax hardware wizard to reinstall driver.
Shut down with it out.
Install stick.
Boot.
If 'new hardware found' pops up then you got it.

If still not then remove stick.
Remove all USB devices via device manager.
Do the same as before and let it reinstall USB drivers too.

i fixed this a while ago. seen it on 2 different machines now. not because of virus
