In my experience once the error rates start ramping up on a disk, any error rates, the device will soon become useless. Dropping it may have broken off/knocked loose a bit of grit which is now dancing around on the platters. Get any data you want off that disk now.

My laptop would not have even noticed the sudden change in height.

i have a case for that type of treatment - came from ebay.
it has big rubber corners like a speaker box, and a handle on top.

    Dropped PC - Bad HDD?

So between the truck and the building at LANfest my friend dropped my computer. It seems to boot and SMART data shows no bad sectors but the read errors are going up rapidly. Is it broken?

Component tester which one is worth the money from it capability to test and identify
    by sam_sam_sam
I am thinking of buying a component tester but I want to get the most out of the device for the money that I am going to spend

Any idea but I would prefer actual use of the device it good points and it short comings be completely truthful about the review of the device

There are so many versions of this type of device and I do not have enough information to make a good decision at this point

When I bought my battery testing machine I had some information to go by because of electrical experience with auto electrical experience in this field job wise (...

TP-Link Kasa KP105 - rapidly power cycling when plugged in
    by spleenharvester
One of my KP105 smart plugs failed today. It started very rapidly power cycling (you could hear the relay clicking on and off and the LED was going green/orange repeatedly).

I was going to just bin it but I opened it up out of curiosity. Found a swollen cap in the corner (bottom right of image). AiSHi brand, 470uF 10V 105*C. Not sure what purpose it serves exactly so can't comment on whether it is appropriately specced. Other members of this forum have reported similar findings with off-brand smart plugs but this is the first time I have seen evidence of this happening with a brand...

    1992 Toyota Truck Speedometer
    by ranchhandbumper
I am working on a 1992 Toyota pickup that has an electric speedometer. It is an analog needle speedometer and is driven by electricity. There is no cable. The transmission has a reed switch that sends a 12 volt pulse to the speedo 4 times per tire rotation.

According to GPS, the speedo is showing speed progressively slower below 50mph and progressively faster above 50mph. This also affects the odometer.

I've included a photo of the findings. The "control" is information I found on the net that correlates expected MPH based on a given hertz.

    I removed...

Samsung UN55D6000FXZA - Won't stay on, standby light flashing rapidly
    by fuxxy
This is a set I posted about a few years ago. Replaced LED strips and worked fine until now.

Plug the set in, and it will turn on and functions with no issues.

After a while, (sometimes hours, sometimes minutes, sometimes immediately) the tv shuts off. When I approach the TV I notice the standby light is flashing rapidly, but the pulse of each flash is not long enough to notice from afar.

Other than the standby light, the unit is completely unresponsive until the power is removed and reapplied, then the cycle starts over. It does appear that the time it takes...
