Win7 on HP DV5 1254 US

Hi guys I was given this weak a Laptop HP Pavilion DV-5-1254 US and came win Win Vista but had problems i tried to repair it but i did a recovery that went sour and i lost the OPS vista,now i'm thinking of getting one of those Win7 Premium 64 bit oem Full built and install from scratch.
My question will this HP PC will handle and install good or will i have all the software to make it run good?

Yes it will work fine. I have run Win7 on one of those from the day it came out and it never had any problems.

The only thing you will need to remember is NOT to install "HP Protect Smart" software from HP's download page, otherwise you will run into an unrecoverable BSOD. Or at least that was 5 years ago. Maybe they fixed it in the meantime. But i still wouldn't install it.

Yup, it should work! I've installed win 7 on plenty of client laptops with a similar, or maybe even the same model. HP is very popular in Norway and I simply don't remember the models of all of the laptops I've worked on. HP protect smart should no longer cause systems to BSOD, but I too don't install it most of the time.
P.S. If you have 4gb of ram or more, install the 64 bit version of windows.

can i still get software from Hp without without the hp protect smart downloads?

Yes of course.

You can install the drivers from the HP support site. Download the ones for Vista (make sure you select the right version for the Win7 you install, 32 or 64 bit), they will work fine.

Last time i checked the DV5 did not have Win7 drivers available, or at least there was some stuff missing, like the card reader. There is a complete set of drivers available for Vista, and they are compatible with Win7 as well.

Thanks i appreciate your tips,strange i ordered the Win7 software and so far i did not receive any email confirmation from walmart.com,i did not keep anything in my computer about it,when i buy stuff from amazon they send me a confirmation right away,here i have nothing after 2 day,

Thanks stj for the warning, it was the first time i tried to order from Walmart,i hope my order was not completed,
i went to my Bank today to check is there was any money payed,so far nothing was payed.hope it stays that way,i will not order anything from them on line.

Do you know any any place i can download a legal copy Win 7 Home Premium ISO,and how much will it cost to activate? thanks

ebay do sell the windows 7 dvds but not sure if genuine? maybe down load the iso and try it if your happy buy a genuine copy or activate your copy.

Thanks I will try Amazon or Bestbuy they sell for about same price,i never got stuff from Ebay, i just don't trust them,my son was screwed one time Pay and did not receive anything,i like Amazon,i've been shopping there for 10 years and was not ever given what was expected.

Too be honest ive been buying a fair bit from amazon lately too.I have only ever had one issue with ebay and paypal sorted it very quickly we all have diffrent experiences with shopping sites i guess. I wonder if its worth a phone call to microsoft to see what a activation costs?

In my opinion getting an OEM key from ebay is the cheapest way, unless... you have access to a computer with an OEM windows 7 sticker on it. Manufacturers usually use a key different from the one on the sticker to activate the pre-installed Windows copy, so the one on the sticker should be unused. If you have a computer/laptop that came with Win7 or a friend who has a computer/laptop like that you might be able to activate it for "free".

Hi guys;Today I had a Lucky day i solved my Win7 Stuation and only spent 50 Bucks,i went to town and i decided to enter in one of the Pawnshops in the area,
and in the shelf i noticed an HP Laptop just like mine except color was Black,while mine is dark silver,and it has Windows7 Home Premium,although it came from Factory with Win Vista, the previous owner must had replaced the Win Vista with Win 7,still had the win Vista Logo sticker on it, the Mod.# HP Pavilion DV-6 1259DX, 6 GB Mem everything else is same of HP DV-5 1254,it had a couple keys taped up with scotch tape, and battery was dry, What was no big deal i already repaired those easy.
Well story short, i saw the price tag and it was marked as it is, 100.00 US
dollars, as always i argue price on Flee market stuff i buy, i offered 50.00 dollars, i did not think that they would let it go for that much but for my surprise they said Yes, if you i pay the Taxes which were only 3 bucks,i was so happy because the Laptop works great the win 7 is fast, doesn't have all that crap they install at the dealers, is fast to boot it's 5 times faster than the Win vista that i had in the other HP DV5,this was my best find and purchase ever. Thanks everybody for trying to help, for you all have a Merry Christmas.
